I recently stayed at the Canmore Inn & Suites on Bow Valley Trail. While the property itself has potential and offers a convenient base for exploring the Rockies, my experience was significantly dampened by a factor I wasn't prepared for: a major local hockey tournament. The ”Tournament” Factor I was unaware upon booking that my stay coincided with a Canmore hockey tournament for U11 and U13 divisions. To say these teams ”took over the hotel” would be an understatement. The volume of children was overwhelming. This translated to: The Pool Area: Practically unusable for other guests; it was packed to capacity with kids from morning until night. Common Areas: Hallways and the lobby were very loud and, at times, felt uncontrollable. Lack of Supervision: There was a noticeable lack of adult/parental supervision in the public spaces, leading to a chaotic atmosphere that isn't ideal if you're looking for a relaxing mountain getaway. Staff and Noise Management To the hotel’s credit, the noise did mostly settle down by 10:30 PM. I spoke with the front desk, and they mentioned we could issue formal noise complaints if needed. However, it felt like a losing battle given the sheer volume of groups. The staff are clearly used to this, as these local tournaments bring in consistent bookings for the hotel. While the team was polite, they seemed stretched thin by the high occupancy and the energy of the young athletes. The Room and Amenities Pros: The location is excellent—close to downtown and Highway 1. The rooms are generally spacious, and the mountain views from the upper floors are a highlight. Cons: The property is showing its age. Some fixtures felt dated, and the cleanliness in the high-traffic common areas suffered due to the heavy foot traffic during the tournament. Final Verdict The simpler solution here is a matter of timing. If you aren't in town to participate in or spectate a tournament, check the local sports calendar before booking. If a U11/U13 tournament is on, I would recommend staying elsewhere. If you are here for the hockey, this is clearly the ”hub,” but for the average traveler, the lack of peace and quiet makes it hard to justify the price point during these peak weekends.

Staff lovely, breakfast lots of variety. Hotel was clean except our room had very strong odour of air freshener when we arrived - but also smell of sewage? Sulphur? as the air freshener lessened it was stronger. We asked if maintenance could come but they were gone for day - the staff very quickly without issue changed our room with apology. New room was a 2 queen room but we were grateful they could relocate us! New room had no strong odours of any kind.

Was ich liebe: Die Lage: Sie können wirklich nicht schlagen, dass Sie gerade auf Banff Avenue. Es war ein schneller, scenischer 5-10 Minute zu Fuß zum Zentrum für Abendessen und Einkaufen. Plus, der Skishuttle-Stop ist nur Schritte entfernt, was ein massiver Plus im Januar ist. Die Ausstattung: Nach einem kalten Tag draußen waren die Hot-Tube und die trockene Cedar-Sauna Highlights. Sie wurden gut gepflegt und genau das, was ich brauchte, um aus zu schütteln. Die Mitarbeiter: Von der Ein- bis Auscheckung war der Service wirklich warm. Sie waren froh, lokale Tipps zu liefern und machte den Prozess schwach. On-site Essen: Wir haben Frühstück im El Toro Restaurant im Hotel gefangen. Das Essen war überraschend gut sicherlich ein Schritt über Ihren Standard-Hotelpreisund sehr bequem an einem kalten Morgen. Einige Bemerkungen: Lärmspiegel: Wie einige andere Reisende bemerkten, sind die Wände etwas dünn. Ich konnte gelegentlich Aktivität in den Hallen und dem Hum des Heizungssystems hören, obwohl es nicht mein Schlaf zerstört hat. Parkplatz: Der unterirdische Parkplatz ist ein großer Parkplatz (insbesondere um den Schnee vom Auto zu halten), aber es ist begrenzt und ziemlich eng. Wenn Sie am Abend in der Spitzensaison spät kommen, müssen Sie vielleicht einen Platz jagen. Zimmer Vibe: Die Zimmer sind sauber und funktional, aber sie fühlen sich ein bisschen ”klassisch”. Wenn Sie nach ultramodernem Luxus suchen, ist das nicht es, sondern für eine gemütliche, haushaltsfreundliche Bergbasis, es schlägt die Marke. Schlussbeschluss: Eine fantastische Mittellinie für Winterreisende. Es ist sauber, gemütlich und perfekt gelegen. Ich würde sicherlich hier wieder für die Bequemlichkeit und die Heißröhre allein bleiben!

Ein gemütlicher und warmer Ort, um in Banff zu bleiben! Die Lage ist wirklich gut, und das Zimmer ist gut gereinigt. Alle Menschen sind nett und bereit, zu helfen. Wir haben dort große Zeit :)

This is going to be the only place we stay in Sylvan Lake. The location and included parking is what will keep us coming. We started with a few questions prior to our stay. Emily was helpful during those calls - confirming our stay, guests, questions about parking/meals/pool etc. Check in was great. We arrived early, Emily told us we can store our things in the locked conference room, and park until check in. We explored town while they were preparing our room (which was done on time.) Kids loved the pool. & hot tub. You need to ask the front desk for towels, on your way to the pool. They do not have towels available at the pool. The bathroom for the pool is small - recommend changing in your room prior to heading to the pool. Breakfast was included - and the poorest experience of our stay. At check in, you are given paper vouchers to redeem at breakfast (7-10 am). There are pastries, yogurt, apples, eggs, hash browns, ham/sausage, and homemade waffles. They need a more efficient process to keep up with breakfast traffic. Waffle batter would run out, line to waffles were blocking the access to the food/drinks. House keeping - they cleaned our bathrooms daily, but did not refresh bedding. We asked the 2nd day at the front desk, and bedding was not done by the time we returned from the lake that evening. Check out - our check out was fine, however we were told we cannot use the pool after checkout at 11 am. I had to return later that afternoon to pick up an item I forgot in the room (which gratefully they emailed me about) and Emily was there, which was a positive note to our exit. My daughter even bought her a package of cookies from the Friday market across the road as a thank you for her service during our stay.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Calgary Airport (IHG). The location is very convenient for the airport and surrounding routes, and the overall cleanliness of the property was excellent—both the rooms and common areas were well maintained. Amenities are fairly basic, so travellers expecting extensive facilities may find them somewhat limited. Unfortunately, the service was on the poorer end of the spectrum during my stay. One point future guests should be aware of: the booking information on the hotel’s website states that a deposit is required, but it does not clearly specify that this must be provided strictly via credit card. Staff indicated that this policy is standard at hotels worldwide; however, as an experienced traveller, I can confirm that many hotels do in fact accept debit cards for deposits. To avoid any issues at check-in, make sure you bring a credit card with you. Overall: great location and cleanliness, basic amenities, but service and clarity around deposit policies could certainly be improved.
