Hotel Aura del Mar

Just spent another week at Aura Del Mar. Another delightful experience: location right on the beach, easy walk into town, various types of spacious rooms, great pool, delicious food at restaurant, A/C and ocean breezes, numerous spots to sit and sunbathe or read in sun or in shade, and above all, the impeccable professional friendly service! People mention the stairs of which, yes, there are many, but I am 71 and simply take my time going up the stairs a few times a day. Can’t wait to return!

Simply the finest hotel I’ve ever spent a week. On the beach, luxurious rooms and service, brilliant happy hour with a view (thanks Abel). Close walk to Centro and tacos. Amazing pool and many places to just chill. Hidden surprises everywhere (turtles? Parrots? Birds? Jacuzzi on my balcony??). This hotel is paradise and I wouldn’t even consider staying anywhere else

This hotel was amazing and I will definitely return. The room was spacious and the balcony had the single most breathtaking view. The daily breakfast was so delicious and the staff was amazing and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed Zihua and if we are lucky enough to return, we will stay here without a doubt.

Wonderful stay! Could not have had a better time at this hotel! We went for my son’s wedding and they did a fantastic job! The wedding was fabulous! They took care of everything! Highly recommend! Janet the wedding planner took care of everything. The hotel was beautiful and very well maintained. Every room had a beautiful ocean view. Very clean! The restaurant at the hotel Bistro Del Mar was so good! I cannot say enough good things about the staff at the restaurant! They were wonderful! Very close walk into town. Mini super across the street. Area felt very safe. Can’t wait to go back!

Lovely hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Perfect location to walk to Zihua restaurants, shops, pier. Flowers blooming. Great pool and access to the beach. There are a lot of stairs so wouldn’t be great for those with mobility concerns.

It was my 3rd time staying at the Aura del Mar and I love it. It's small, quiet at night and the grounds are beautiful. The rooms are simple but clean and I think that they all have an ocean view. The location is perfect with easy access to many good restaurants and also to the center of town. You can also always find somewhere to sit in the shade! All the staff was attentive and friendly, but I'd like to single out the hard-working Salvador for going up and down those stairs with our food and drinks, and also our cleaning lady Maricella, for doing a great job and just being the absolute nicest. Nice people help to enhance a vacation and I'm going back next year!

The Aura Del Mar is in the best beach location, just a short walk to town from the hotel. There are lots of steps from the beach to the beautiful lobby, which can be a plus or a minus. The management there is excellent and will see to your every need. I book a year in advance to get really great rooms. January is a great time to get out of the Pacific Northwest right after the Holliday crowds.

My husband and I stayed ten nights in Room #8 at the Aura del Mar from late January to early February, 2023. the room was a king bed with the jacuzzi/plunge pool on the balcony and the two couches/extra twin beds and was huge and very comfortable- including the mattress! It was my second stay there and was even better than the first stay - which was about 12 years ago I think. I would describe the hotel as 'rustic luxury' and very Mexican in style and feel. Great views from all the rooms as they face the ocean. Great happy hours up at the lobby bar (that view!) and the staff are all great too. Check-in and out is a breeze and service at all levels was friendly and efficient. Playa Madera is a great place to stay as you can walk to downtown and the pier so easily and also hike up over the hill to La Ropa if you want to go there for a meal or a beach day. Playa Madera usually is calm and very swimmable, when we were there the waves were much bigger than normal but SO FUN- and the water was clear, clean and lovely and warm. We swam every single day we were there- the hotel beach club is small but we never really had an issue finding somewhere to sit. The hotel pool is also lovely -and the water slide as fast as I remember from last stay! We did see a couple of small crocodiles at the place where the canal meets the ocean and heard from a couple on a sailboat anchored off Madera that they spotted a 6+ foot croc one day swimming past their boat at dusk. Do not worry too much about that as they avoid humans- but maybe stick to swimming during full daylight hours! Madera area has many wonderful restaurants so finding a good place to eat is never a problem. And you have one of the best restaurants in Zihua right at the hotel, the Bistro del Mar. We had a couple of lunches there and it is always great and the service in the restaurant is about the best service we had the whole trip anywhere. Beach service was not quite as attentive but was still fine. Especially when Fortunato was working! All in all, the Aura del Mar is a great boutique hotel in every way- the only downside for us is the high price, sadly. Everything was more expensive this year in Zihua and this hotel was no exception. We heard room prices went up $50 each this past year alone and it was already a pricy place to stay. But, that is just life today, I guess!
