Stayed for 1 night while visiting my daughter at the University. Clean and comfortable room, top notch delicious breakfast. Not usually an ale drinker myself but i tried a couple of halves, lovely well kept beer Friendly staff and excellent value for money. Will definitely look to stay again when visiting York 🙂

A really outstanding find. Great small pub atmosphere with top grade rooms above. I had room #6 which was spotless with a decent bathroom and shower, lots of clean towels and soap & shampoo etc. The room was a good size and the tea/coffee tray was well stocked. It was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with great choices and service. Great value for money with a small car park as well. I will stay again when I am up that way.

This was a great place to stay, Tom was friendly and helpful, the room was fantastic, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was one of the best I’ve had! It’s close to the Barbican theatre and not too far from the historical sites. Parking on site as well, will be staying again.

Stayed for two nights and a great stay. The staff were great, very accommodating. We just loved the atmosphere of a local pub The breakfasts were very good. I liked the option of pancakes as it wasn’t available at other places we stayed at during our two weeks in the U.K😳 Excellent location as you could walk to many sites

Could have been sooo much better with a little tweak! The pub, rooms and breakfast is great. The young girl that sorted us out from start to finish was excellent. The accommodation locks up at 11pm so you get 3 keys - gate to back yard, entrance to pub, room. Unfortunately the entrance to the property is a yale lock and someone dropped the deadlock on the door before we got back. We knocked loudly but no-one could hear. There is a contact number for the owners when the pub is open which we rang lots of times and left messages, also text to say we were locked out but no answer or reply. If we had our car key with us we would have considered sleeping in the car but they were in our room. At the very least there should have been a sign on the door instructing residents NOT to put the deadlock on the door. We were in the yard for an hour and only got in due to waking a resident up at the front of the property who was not happy. When mentioned to the owner at breakfast next day there was no answer to why they don’t answer the phone and just a’sorry’ with a bottle of Prosecco. Apparently it has happened before but they have done nothing to rectify this. For this reason only we will never stay here again. You don’t pay for a room to stand in the car park stressing for a large chunk of the night!

As a family we booked three rooms here for 3 nights. We had a double, twin and a single room. The double and twin rooms were ok size wise, though we did see that there were bigger rooms during our stay. The single room was very compact. The two bigger rooms had a small wardrobe but not much else storage wise. There wasn't a wardrobe in the single room. They were all en suite Our room overlooked the car park and we weren't disturbed overnight by any noise. The staff were very nice. We had breakfast every morning which offered, cereals, toast, fresh juices, teas, coffees. The cooked breakfasts, which were cooked to order, were very good. There is a car park but with limited spaces. The outside beer garden is nice. Even though the room my brother had was small he said it was adequate for the weekend and thought it was value for money, when it included such a good breakfast in the price

A really good old fashion pub, very well located just outside the walls of York. Room was clean, large and well-appointed with a comfortable bed, the breakfast excellent and the service was exemplary. Parking was a little tight, but I managed to get a largish car parked and it stayed put for the next 3 days so not a problem. Lots of eateries within walking distance My only complaint is the noise from the road. We had a front facing room which was directly outside a bus stop and woke to the sound of traffic each day although never had a problem in the evening once the traffic had reduced. Secondary glazing might help in this respect. We asked if would be possible to move rooms but unfortunately, they were fully booked. If you are concerned about noise I would ask if one of the rear facing rooms is available. In conclusion a great stay – would give 5 stars if not for the noise problem.

Delightful stay. The room was bright, airy and clean. Very comfortable bed with excellent bedding. The shower was exceptionally good. Good walking distance from the centre. Easy to locate all tourist attractions. The city wall is very close and you can access this with ease. The breakfast was superb, lots of choice and very well cooked. All staff were friendly and extremely helpful. We’d definitely stay again. Parking on site was a real plus!! Well done Tom and team.

Great place we stayed here last night. Nice room and comfy bed. We wasn't there much because we were exploring York alot. Friendly hosts and a grand breakfast. Would definitely recommend staying here. Only a 10 min walk to the shambles in the town centre.
