Historic Tapoco Lodge

I stayed in the Tapoco River House that is off property 7 miles from the lodge and located on the Cheoah river on sr129 . Amazing and beautiful 2 story 4br/2-1/2 bath house that sleeps 7 easy . 1 king , 3 queen and 3 twin size beds . All modern house with wood floors and new appliances in a great location as well as nice and quiet . The large back patio with nice lounge chairs and a fire pit over looks the river as well as the full windowed main dining room . The manager , waitress's and staff at the lodge are all wonderful people and the food was awesome ! This is my 2nd time staying here because i was very impressed with this house the first time in May 2024 so I chose this house again in Oct 1st-5th 2024 . I am a little picky about where I stay on my trips and there was simply nothing to complain about during my stay either time . Its one of those get-a-ways that make you happy to be there and sad to leave . I'm already booked again for May 2025 :)

This is our 2nd time staying at Tapoco Lodge in the Cheoah Cabin. Beautiful property with cabins lining the back edge of the forest and the main lodge sitting on a creek. It’s so serene to sit on the grand deck listening to the rushing water while eating the most delicious meals! We had the trout two nights in a row! You feel comfortable in any attire, we’ve come in straight off our motorcycles but also dressed up! The staff goes out of their way to make sure you have a memorable time! Loved roasting marshmallows in the fire pit and browsing through the adorable “country store” gift shop! Food, property and staff truly FABULOUS!!! We will be back!

This place has it all !!! amazing rooms and cabins !! Food is great , drinks are great , everything and everyone is top notch !! The river release watching the kayakers was awesome !! Amazing hiking trails from the property … tail of the dragon is right up the road so hearing and seeing the cars and bikes headed to it was a blast !!! Totally recommend to everyone !!!

The Historic Tapoco Lodge (established 1930) is in the most picturesque setting. The river runs right beside it so you can eat overlooking the flowing river. We stayed in the Hydrangea room at the Lodge which was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The bed was so soft and the pillows so fluffy. We are lunch, dinner and breakfast there. The menu was extensive and each meal was so delicious. We would definitely return and highly recommend this for the atmosphere and value.

Stayed here while sight seeing and doing the Tail of the Dragon. We stayed in a cabin and it was perfect. We spent the night star gazing by the river. Breakfast and dinner were great. Staff went over and above what is expected. Stay here and you won't regret it.

Absolutely LOVED the cabin we were in! The hot tub located on our private patio deck was awesome! The views of the river from restaurant deck were phenomenal, the food was amazing, and every server we encountered was friendly and went out of their way to accommodate and make us welcome! We ate several meals at the lodge and enjoyed every one of them! I would highly recommend Tiffany for an in-cabin massage! She was professional and her massage a perfect blend of relaxation with reflexology!

What a hidden gem. Friendly staff, impeccable facility with charm and the cleanest room ever! Every classy place I have stayed has its own scent, and this one ranked near the top with malie brand body care products, which we bought. We opted for a great massage in (Azalea) room after dinner and had breakfast at the lodge restaurant the next day before checkout. Massage was great and liked it being in room (no spa onsite). The ambience of the Cheoah River combined with the charm of the lodge was spectacular. Food was so-so at the tavern, but better at breakfast. The stay overall was still awesome and we will be back!

This is our second trip to the Tapoco Lodge and this trip was for our 49th wedding Anniversary. We love everything about the Tapoco!! The people who work there are so very nice and helpful. The food is excellent and the outdoor dining deck overlooks the beautiful Cheoah River. They also have indoor dining as well as an indoor and outdoor bar. We stayed in a cabin the first time during a dam release on the Cheoah River and the Roosevelt Suite this trip for the Fall leaves. Both experiences were unique and amazing. If you are a sports car or motorcycle enthusiast Hwy. 129 "Tail of the Dragon" is within a few miles. If you love beautiful mountain scenery the Cherohala Skyway is also a short distance away . It passes through the Cherokee National Forest and the Nantahala National Forest which is where its name comes from. If you enjoy hiking - the Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness is within a few miles and a beautiful drive to get there. There are trails at the Tapoco Lodge to hike also and the Benton Mackaye trail goes through the parking lot. The Santeelah River and Fontana Lake are both an easy drive if fishing or boating is on your agenda. We will return to the Tapoco Lodge as often as possible-it is, as you have probably figured out, one of our favorite places to visit and we highly recommend it!!
