Our family made a special trip from Tokyo to Nagano, and besides exploring the surrounding attractions, watching the snow monkeys soaking in the hot springs of Nozawa, and visiting the Togakushi Shrine, the highlight of this trip was staying at Issa no Komichi Biyu no Yado. Initially, we had modest expectations, thinking of it as just another experience. However, upon arriving in the snowy Yudanaka Shibu Onsen, we were immediately impressed by the warm and professional hospitality. From the thoughtful reception to the exquisite dinner and the unique public onsen, every aspect exceeded our expectations and left us pleasantly surprised. This wasn’t just a hotel stay—it was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Japanese onsen culture. If you’re planning a trip to Nagano, this is definitely a place worth visiting to experience the perfect blend of hot springs and nature!

This was our very first stay in a ryokan and our second night in Japan. It was lovely as was the staff. Our attendant walked us to our room and explained everything and told us he would come back later to fix our beds. My husband was especially grateful for the extra pad as he is over 6 ft. As pretty as it is, you do still feel like you are sleeping on the floor. It definitely was an experience and of the ryokans we stayed in, this was the nicest. We did have a nice breakfast included. What I enjoyed looking at was the placemat at breakfast that basically was a map of everything you were being served and an explanation of what it was, especially the Japanese items. We loved being so close to the Snow Monkey Park and the hotel even had snow cleats you could rent to attach to your shoes. It was very icy getting from the hotel to the beginning of the trail as it was early February. The gardens in and around the hotel were covered in snow and especially beautiful. I had contacted the hotel in advance to tell them of our arrival time at Yudanaka Station and they were there to pick us up. On the return, they took us back to Yudanaka Station for our return to Nagano. Great hotel and service

From the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there. The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance. - The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit. - The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning. - After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics. - Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30. - The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want. - The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this. - Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern). We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

Wir waren vor kurzem für eine Nacht hier, als wir den Snow Monkey Park besuchten. Erstens ist die Lage fantastisch. Es ist weniger als drei Gehminuten vom Hauptbahnhof entfernt und liegt auch direkt an der Bushaltestelle, von der aus Sie zum Eingang des Snow Monkey Parks gelangen. Ich schätze, dass die Busfahrt etwa 15 Minuten (vielleicht sogar weniger) gedauert hat, da wir tatsächlich den ganzen Weg vom Park zurück zu Fuß gegangen sind und nicht mit dem Bus, was etwa 30 Minuten gedauert hat. Das Personal im Hotel war unglaublich nett. Sie sprachen nicht viel Englisch, aber sie versuchten die ganze Zeit, uns entgegenzukommen und waren immer herzlich und freundlich. Bei der Ankunft wurden wir mit einer Auswahl an kostenlosen Getränken begrüßt, während wir uns zum Aufwärmen an ein gemütliches Feuer in der Lobby setzten. Wir hatten das japanische Zimmer gebucht, das sehr geräumig war. Wir hatten ein kleines Problem mit der Hitze und baten um eine zusätzliche Reinigung unseres Badezimmers, aber das Personal war sofort für die Probleme zuständig und kümmerte sich innerhalb weniger Minuten um alles. Am Ende haben wir das private Onsen auf dem Dach gebucht, was auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen ist! Wir waren dort während eines ziemlich heftigen Schneesturms und es war ein einzigartiges Erlebnis, im Onsen zu sein, da um uns herum Schnee fiel. Am nächsten Morgen war das Frühstück in unserem Preis inbegriffen. Wir saßen in unserem eigenen abgesperrten Stand und bekamen eine RIESIGE Auswahl eines traditionellen japanischen Frühstücks. Obwohl uns das Essen sehr fremd war, probierten wir die meisten Speisen und waren von der eleganten Präsentation der einzelnen Speisen sehr beeindruckt. Insgesamt ein tolles Erlebnis im Hotel Tsubaki!

Wir genossen das private Zimmer, der Sushi-Küche, die unser Sushi bereitet, der Besitzer kam und Check-in auf uns, es war alles sehr speziell und attraktiv vorgestellt. Wir alle trugen unsere Yukatas zum Abendessen und wir werden ein wunderbares Weihnachtskartenbild haben. Die Esel war wunderbar, so geräumig und voller Ausstattung. Sie bieten auch viele Ausstattung in Ihrem Zimmer. Das Frühstück war erstaunlich. Meine Mutter wuchs in Japan auf und konnte die Auswahl der japanischen Artikel nicht übernehmen. Das beste Frühstück, das wir während unserer japanischen Reise hatten. Wir benutzten auch den Shuttle zum Snow Monkey Park (das war ein Highlight unserer 12 Tage in Japan, so viele Baby-Affen, gehen frühzeitig). Es war auch leicht zu Fuß zum Bahnhof, auch mit Gepäck. Wir haben Geschenke in der kleinen Geschenkzone gekauft und die Gastfreundschaft aller Mitarbeiter wirklich geschätzt.

Yorozuya ist das Epithom eines entspannenden Urlaubs, wenn Sie in Nagano sind (Shibu Onsen). Wir wurden von der Personalinspektion bei Eincheckung begrüßt und mit einer Tee-Zeremonie begrüßt, bevor wir in unsere Zimmer gehärtet wurden. Ich muss bemerken, dass der Eingang in der ist recht historisch groß, da Sie die Schritte von der Rezeption zu Fuß. The major highlight is the outdoor setting for one of the onsens - you’d probably understand nirvana once you’ve experienced it yourself. Das Abendessen war eine heikle Ausbreitung mit viel zu versuchen, vor allem mit lokalen Zutaten. Ich persönlich mochte die Rindfleischschnitzel und die Shabu Shabu Erfahrung. Wenn Sie sich bei der Arbeit und in der Notwendigkeit einer Ferngestell verbrannt fühlen, würde ich sicherlich hierher kommen. Es ist auch ziemlich großer Wert für eine Einrichtung, die der oberen Ebenen in der Region ist.

This is a very small town and although we’ve seen many foreigners visiting this town and this hotel on Youtube (one of the reasons we decided to stay here), it is very foreigner ‘unfriendly’ to say the least. It seemed hotel staff only spoke Japanese, so if you don’t speak it, it will be very difficult to enjoy the amenities. Staff were nice, but not very flexible (strictly by the rules, we supposed) thus not as accommodating as other ryokans we’ve stayed in. Dinner was very nicely presented and tasty…so many dishes that we couldn’t finish all (& we are big eaters) …felt bad leaving food untouched :(. The 9 Onsen tour was on my Bucket List and we got that done in less than an hour not by choice but because the water was soooooooo hot that we couldn’t even stick our feet in…almost scorched the bottom of my feet from. Very disappointing :(.

今回、ダブルブッキングがホテルのミスにより発生し、代替のホテルを該当ホテルにて対応されました。代替ホテルについては妥当なサービスレベルでしたが、問題は旅行代理店の対応です。 電話にて状況説明を受けましたが、基本該当ホテルの問題であるとの主張を全面に出しての主張で違和感を感じました。結局、代替ホテルに変わった情報等は電話ベースのやり取りだけで、書面/メール等何も記録に残るものがなく、予約が取れているのか等を直接代替ホテルに確認を取らざるを得ませんでした。　 契約はあくまで旅行代理店と行っているわけで、取り扱いの宿泊ホテルのエラーであっても責任を持った事後対応をするべきではないでしょうか。 ※以下の評価「サービス」はは、旅行代理店への評価として付けました。 　それら以外は、代替ホテルの評価となります。 　したがって、口コミ掲載として不適切であれば掲載されなくて構いません。
