Trouble began with our reservations. We were part of a group reservation and less than a week before leaving we were notified that our reservation was canceled. Actually, anther couple in our group canceled but the communication was terrible. The front desk couldn’t figure out the problem and there was a lot of angst generated trying to resolve the issue. Once at the hotel, check-in was efficient and went smoothly. Initially, the room seemed well appointed, WIFI was “free” but unsecured and we received some unwanted email from a Texas business after using the service. After our first day outing we returned to the room only to learn that service was every other day and all of our towels were still wet from morning showers. The next day we did receive cursory service with new towels and made beds. However, the complimentary coffee, toilet paper, and Kleenex were not replenished. When I went to the front desk the staff was only able to find toilet paper. The shower was okay with a nice soap and shampoo station but the sheet rock was damaged and shabby. Water temp was good and water pressure was a bit low but acceptable. With time, we noticed that the carpet and floors were heavily soiled. The HVAC was functional but noisy enough to waken us with every on-off cycle. About the best things I can say are that the location is good and the next door eatery, Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp, was easily accessible with a great menu, great service, and good food. In contrast, the hotel breakfast was standard fare, not regularly replenished, and mediocre. In summary, the poor service, dirty floors, and the obvious need for many structural repairs will lead us to seek another venue the next time we visit Winnie. It is probably worthwhile checking on availability at the nearby Hampton Inn.
