Booked a double room which sadly didn't match the overall look and feel of Hilton House. The room on first sight looked impressive especially as the bed was a four poster. On closer inspection after being in the room a while after arrival, it was in need of a deep clean. Dusty complimentary chocolates, mildew on the back of the curtains which matched the damp musky smell of the room. Cobwebs in corners and dust/dirt on skirting and corners of the wardrobe. Cloudy mirrors in the bathroom and the main room, not cleaned with a clean cloth. The mattress cover had holes on each side edge, looked as though it had been burned through with an iron. Can't believe this was deemed as acceptable. The room was cold and felt damp, smelled musky and was over looked by the owners house as well as another guest room from their French doors. When those guests sat on the patio, they directly faced our bedroom window!!! Understandably it didn't feel private. Windermere was great, lovely weather and very pleasant people. The owner not overly friendly, an ambivalent attitude towards us, seemed to have formed a negative opinion even though he was meeting us for the first time. I thought he was rude when upon seeing my husbands car said, "Oh you've gone up in the world." Spoke volumes! Certainly didn't get the impression we were welcome or would be welcomed back, not that we plan on staying there again, I'm sure to the owners relief.
