Days Inn by Wyndham Willmar

I had a wonderful time over there. The staff were amazing. The hotel was cleaned and breakfast was good.

If I could give this place negative stars I would. They have been rude since day one and making up lies to tell our bosses. There’s not a redeeming thing about this place from the terrible furniture to some rooms smelling moldy and the conduct of the rude staff and house keeping taking forever to get through rooms and clean them.

I have to stay under a certain spending limit when I travel for business and this was at the top end of what is allowed by my company. I would not choose to stay here again. The doors have old fashioned dead bolt locks and don't latch well. The furniture is mismatched. None of the lamps work. One of the plug ins seems to be working and the toilet is visibly stained. Borderline unsafe feeling.

Absolutely disgusting! Rude staff, homeless looking people “cleaning” , using that term loosely. I think they just spray some cleaner in the air but that doesn’t even help the moldy, curry smell throughout the place. Rusted fire sprinkler, furniture dented, scratched, broken. Food debris and fingernail clippings around edges of room. Towels almost brown color, hair dryer rusted, broken. No lid for ice bucket, no sink drain, spots on mirror, walls with holes, stains, cracks, lampshades yellow, cracked. Outlet plug loose and shorted out. Worst of all , I decided to wait out our stay but when I complained to front desk needing a working hairdryer and the keys still not working at any door (safety issue for any women getting locked outside) the owner/manager not sure bc he refused to give me his name then kicked us out for complaining bc he didn’t like my attitude. Unbelievable! Grateful though to find the SureStay Best Western in Spicer was 10/10. From now on, that’s where we’ll be staying!

The room was so dirty we were grossed out. Felt dirtier after showering. Carpet was sticky and full of hair. The man at the front desk didn't care about our dirty room. Breakfast wasn't too bad. Don't stay here!

Check-in took awhile. Apparently computer program kept freezing and crashing? Staff was not friendly or professional. All spaces were very run-down, neglected. It appeared nobody ever vacuumed. No elevator. My room was dark and sheets were stained. I couldn't stay, and checked-out an hour later after finding a new hotel.

I booked two nights for two adults at this hotel through Priceline and checked-in alone, without issue. I — a white male — was in town to keep my partner — a younger black female — company while she worked a remote, short-term gig there, and I’d work remotely during the business day. After work, we’d grab dinner and drinks out and then hang out at the hotel, getting to sleep relatively early since she started work early each morning. We were quiet, kept to ourselves and caused zero issues. We decided I should stay an extra night, so I extended our stay through Priceline. That morning, I went to the front desk to see if we could stay in the same room and was told our room was taken and we would have to change rooms. But then, the man at the front desk said he had a question for me and asked, “Who is that young woman staying with you?” I was taken aback but answered, “That’s my girlfriend. She’s in town working this week and I’m visiting her.” He said, “Well, girlfriend or not, we think something fishy is going on and are choosing to refuse you service. I’m canceling your reservation and you can take up the refund with Priceline.” At this point, I’m shocked. I said, “Okay, then,” and went to the room and quickly packed our things up and took them to the car before returning to the front desk with the key card. While there I said to the same man, “I’d like to understand exactly what you’re referring to when you say ‘something fishy’ is going on?“ He completely sidestepped the question, tried to blame the decision on a night auditor, then told me the whole family decided to refuse us business and as a family business, they could refuse anyone they wanted. I left. A little later, I called Priceline for a refund, and while on the phone they said they had to call the hotel and verify what had happened. They owned up to nothing and claimed instead that I had canceled the reservation. I don’t usually post reviews, but what happened here cannot go unmentioned. Avoid giving any business to this family and do yourself a favor and book a nicer hotel.

1. The attendent had no record of my traveling with my dog, became angry when he found out. 2. When he found out I had a dog with me the attendant swore at me in a mix of English and another language I did not understand. 2. Took 40 minutes to check me in. He said he had worked there for some time but seemed to not know how to do it as he had to make 5 phone calls to someone else during the process. 3. Charged me an additional $50 outside of my reservation for my pet to stay 2 nights. (this might be standard, but was handled in a manner than seemed rather suspicious at the time). 4. The room at mystery scum on three walls in the main room and one wall in the bathroom. I identified at least one spot as mucus of some kind. 5. There was feces on the inside of the shower curtain. 6. There was mystery scum on the counter I was unable to clean off. 7. When I asked to move I was told that was the only room that they had for guests with pets. 8. There was what appeared to be dirt or mud (I hope) smeared on one of the pillows. 9. Someone had spit chewing tobacco on and inside the top drawer of the TV stand. Honestly, I wish I had demanded a refund and gone to another hotel, but these things all presented themselves gradually, plus it was late and we were tired and needed sleep. I have always had excellent experiences at Wyndham locations, but this Days Inn in Willmar, MN was truly awful.

The desk clerk (Sam) was sitting in the entrance with his wife and 13 month old daughter. He welcomed us in and promptly went to the front desk to check us in. We had just made the reservation about an hour before we got there but everything was in the computer. The room was clean and the furnishings were what I expected for the chain.
