Winter has settled in the High Country and what better way to spend a snowy day than snuggled in our mountain cottage.After traveling for 4 years, we settled in the charming town of West Jefferson, North Carolina, in an established neighborhood, a 5 minute walk to downtown shops, cafes and art galleries. We were thrilled our home included an artist's studio atop the garage, just behind our home, but decided we would prefer to use the studio for friends and family; close enough for socializing but far enough for everyone to have their own space. In between family and friends we are opening our guest studio, Vogelsang (German for birdsong) Cottage, to you, and whether you are a couple or solo traveler, we are committed to making you as comfortable as family. There is ample off street parking, 15 stair steps to the studio and a small deck for enjoying views of Little and Big Phoenix Mountains. Inside is a queen bed with soft sheets, plenty of pillows (you can never have too many pillows), comforter and extra blankets for those cool nights in the mountains. The bath has a shower, toilet, small sink, towels and ample hooks. A dorm frig, microwave, coffee maker and coffee, is in the nook. If you or your companion are super tall, you may find the 6'9" ceilings confining. The entry door is 5'8" and everyone instinctively ducks, even if they are only 5'2". But once inside, you will find everything you need for a cozy, comfortable stay. Wi-fi, TV, air conditioning, heat, peace and quiet!When you are ready to explore downtown, a quick walk, or drive, through the Town park, past basketball, pickle ball and tennis courts, playground, the Ashe County Library, to all the activity and excitement of shops, cafes and galleries. Grab a coffee and sweet at Hatchet Coffee, lunch at an English Tea Room, a movie, or beer in the evening at one of two craft breweries. The trolley to the Old Barn Winery departs and returns downtown on the weekends on a regular schedule. Hop on and leave the driving to them. You can even choose your Christmas Tree while there. Kick back and relax on large sectional while watching netflix, youtube, hulu, etc. on the 65" smart TV. An additional smart tv can be rolled into the bedroom of your choice. The sectional sofa converts into a pull out double bed with upgraded gel mattress. You'll find many board games and DVD's for entertainment. The kitchen is fully equipped with new stainless steel appliances and 11 foot granite island. Dining table seats 8 comfortably. Greystone Cottage is newly renovated, dog-friendly, and a 5 min walk to restaurants, shopping, and countless special events that take place in the historic Town of West Jefferson (car shows, Christmas in July, parades, etc.). The cottage has a mountain view, large gated porch (perfect for keeping your dogs contained on the porch as needed), private hot tub (which is cleaned and balanced after each guest), gas grill, and fire pit with Edison lights and up lighting illuminating the outdoor area at night. The cottage is equipped with keyless entry, fiber optic high speed internet, smart TVs, washer and dryer, mini-split A/C and heat, and a fully functional kitchen. The kitchen has a stainless steel fridge, stove, oven, and dishwasher and the cabinets are stocked with utensils, pans, dishes, cups, etc. The refrigerator does not have an ice maker; however, there are ice trays in the freezer and a Brita filtered pitcher in the fridge. There is a Keurig coffee maker in the kitchen, an electronic kettle, and coffee pods and creamers are provided for each guest along with other essentials like laundry, dishwashing pods, bath and hot tub towels. As an added treat, we provide some graham crackers, Hershey bars, and marshmallows for fun by the fire pit. The two bedrooms have brand new Sealy memory foam mattresses (Queen).You can pretty much walk to anything you want to do downtown, but you are also only a few min. drive to Christmas tree lots, Old Barn Winery and Vineyards, hiking at Mt. Jefferson, Mountain Aire golf course, rafting on the new river, and countless restaurants and other experiences.Dogs: As mentioned in the listing, we allow guests to bring two, small dogs, if they desire for an extra fee. The dogs cannot be vicious, destructive, or non-housebroken. Please reach out to the host for any questions.The cleaning fee for each stay is $110. This is what my cleaning crew charges me to turnover the cottage and balance the hot tub.
