Our recent visit to Caza Beach Hotel turned out to be an utterly disappointing experience, a far cry from the relaxing getaway my wife and I had anticipated. From the outset, our encounter was marred by a series of unfortunate events that culminated in us leaving the guest house within a hour of our arrival! Upon entering our room, we were immediately greeted by an overpowering damp smell. The musty odor was so pervasive that my wife noticed it the moment we sat down. Recognizing the discomfort it caused us, we promptly reached out to management for a resolution. To our dismay, the owner, while acknowledging the issue was due to recent heavy rains, offered a mere 50% refund. Given the severity of the room's condition, we found this proposal unacceptable and requested a full refund instead. The owner's response to our request was shocking. Instead of addressing our concerns with the seriousness they deserved, she abruptly walked out, stating she "doesn't have time for this." Such a dismissive attitude towards guests was bewildering. It became evident that the owner prioritizes overseas customers, under the misguided belief that locals would not discern the subpar value offered by their establishment in comparison to other options in Durban. The situation escalated further when, after insisting we hadn't agreed to any terms and conditions due to arranging our stay directly, the owner retreated to her quarters, leaving her staff to handle the fallout of her absence and our growing dissatisfaction. She then proceeded to openly lie about offering the 50% refund and refused to refund ANY amount. Ultimately, we decided to book another accommodation, leaving behind the unpleasantness at Caza Beach Guest House. Our experience at Caza Beach was not just about the unsatisfactory state of the room but also about the owner's unprofessional and disrespectful handling of our legitimate concerns. We are considering legal action, given that we did not utilize the room in its unacceptable condition. To fellow travelers, especially locals familiar with the standards of hospitality in Durban, my advice is do not stay at Caza Beach. The room is sub par for the 4 star advertised. The owners is what what she is. Beware. The disdainful treatment we received from the ownership and the poor living conditions are stark reminders that not all accommodations meet the mark of genuine hospitality.
