We don't get the uniform high praise. The setting is lovely, the property is clean, and the breakfast is great. But for the price, the entire experience is a disappointment. The rooms are priced at high-end “resort” prices – but there’s no pool, no spa, and no gym, and there’s not the slightest effort to make you feel like you’re at a high-end place rather than merely renting a room. Although they make an effort to attract English-speaking travelers with their English replies to their reviews on Trip Advisor, once you're there, there's not an English word in sight. There’s no staff who speak English (or try to). Their breakfast menu is not available in English. Their dinner menu isn’t available in English. Mind you, this is a very expensive hotel in a resort town which, based on their prices, surely must cater (and must need to cater) to foreign travelers. And yet they make no effort of any kind to try to bridge the language gap. (We constantly use translator apps -- i.e., we make a concerted effort to communicate in local languages. If only this hotel, like other high-end hotels in Trancoso and elsewhere in Brazil, would meet us half-way.) Other feedback: The rooms are sprayed with an offensive perfume that smells as if it's from a cheap drug store. So, in spite of the heat, when we got to our room after the twice daily staff visits to our room, during which our room was sprayed with perfume, we opened the doors and windows to get rid of the odor. The hangars, which we're sure were very expensive, are rectangular. Have you ever used a rectangular hangar? There's a reason you've not seen one until you arrive at this hotel: they don't work. And their management/owner is unresponsive. For a hotel that charges extraordinary rates, which suggests that they perceive themselves as a world class hotel, they should create a guest experience that's commensurate with that.
