Kuranoya

A wonderful place to stay in the lovely town of Tono! Firstly we are so grateful that the owner helped us arrange a rental car with a rental company (and even drove us there to pick it up). We also opted for dinner at Kuranoya, and that was the best decision ever, with delicious local produce presented in a home cooked meal, honestly they are too modest about how wonderful it is. The room was also huge and the location totally quiet and serene. At night we even played the guitar with the owner and sang some songs, honestly these are the kind of experiences I'll remember from my trip to Japan :)

Everything was excellent here. Starting with the host who speaks excellent English, and was so friendly and helpful with everything. Then, we had a large and comfortable tatami room (with shower), and there were even soft pillows on request :) . As we said we were not used to Japanese style breakfast, we were given a slightly lighter version - beautifully presented and delicious. The whole place felt calm and peaceful. In short, a great experience :)

Kuramoto-san is the best B&B host in Japan! As first-timers in Tono area, coming from Norway, we were grateful for smooth communication and arrangements and all the help and advice from the owner, Mr. Kuramoto, before and during our stay. We also got gluten-free meals for breakfast and dinner, which we enjoyed immensely. The meals were delicious, and beautifully arranged. We spent 4 nights in a large tatami-room which was nice and spacious, very peaceful, clean and tidy, with excellent wifi, and we did not want to leave. Mr. Kuramoto actually assigned us a larger room than we had booked, and he also helped us with pick-up and drop off in local area, which made it possible for us to participate in traditional crafts-workshop in Tono, which is a dream come true. The scenery around the B&B is very peaceful, and we really enjoyed our stay. We definitely recommend B&B Kuranoya to all new visitors!

Just fantastic. Base of operations for your stay. Because you will receive assistance in planning your daily activities. There is parking. Or if you need pick up and drop off in local area Toshihiro will be happy to help. Bicycle hire is my recommendation and start with the local museum (audio/video guide in multiple languages) and folklore museum (some English translation via QR code). The 12 tatami room was fine and could sleep 4 if needed - urn,private shower and toilet, fridge, safe, excellent wifi. You will probably be using Google map and most locations have useful reviews. Three or four nights to see everything or two nights for highlights. The tourist info next to the station rents the bikes (love the e-bikes) and you may be able to get a copy of the english translation of Tono monogatari 1100 yen (I had been looking for 6 months - Amazon wanted 5 times that price. Everyone in the town was super helpful. Our preferred coffee shop was Yaochu. And Kuranoya will do gluten free - breakfast (and dinner on request). You need to come to Tono and you need to stay at Kuranoya.

Had the 12 tatami room, which was very spacious. For a single person the 8 tatami room will be enough, though. Fridge and water heater were provided incl. very, VERY tasty green tea. Bed needs to be tidied up each day for cleaning reasons though I would have done that anyway because else mold could grow. I had my own bathroom, where tooth brush, paste as well as shampoo and body soap had been provided. Kuramoto-san has been very eager to show hospitality. As far as I can say he would have been nice enough to drive me to sightseeing spots (as already stated by other people). Though I didn't need that service because I had rented a bike which he supported me to get at the tourist office. The breakfast was wonderfully and especially vegetarian made, thanks a lot! I am happy to recommend the Kuranoya B&B.

Tono is a special place in Northern Japan, for its nature and culture. It’s not surprising that many legends originated here. The B@B Kuranoya is an ideal basis for exploring it and two nights were a bit short for all the points of interest. The B&B itself is great, we got a very large room of 12 tatamis, other are smaller, and meals were excellent. Our GPS plaid a bad trick, sending us a few hundred meters away after dark, we missed the B&B indications and the owner was very kind to come to our rescue. Warmly recommended.
