The Golden Fleece Hotel, Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Hotel is very central and our room was furnished lovely. Could have done with bin in bathroom and bedside tissues. We had a lovely room overlooking the car park at the front but it was quiet . Plenty of good quality tea,coffee hot chocolate and biscuits in the room .

Lovely old building, but the rooms need renovating badly. We stayed in the room nro 5 which was a good size room, but a bit of new paint would not do any harm. Especially in the bathroom. The fan in the bathroom sounds like it's going to take off anytime... The bed and bedding are good. Mixed information given about the breakfast start time at the reception. Young staff members are definitively nicer and more welcoming than the older ones. It is very expensive for what it is. The food in the restaurant is nice.

Just an overnight stay while heading southwards to London. I had late check-in which was easy. Room was quirky i would say and quite nice. Very clean, well.done the housekeepers. They also leave you a little hand written welcome note... Nice. Bathroom clean and good. Good shower. It's a bath shower I have arthritis so stepping over a bath is always awkward but it's also great to have that choice of a bath if you want it. I didn't eat dinner here as I was drawn to the Italian just across the road which was gorgeous.. Breakfast good... Full English and quality seems excellent. Everything on the plate was hot. Staff where excellent very friendly... All in all excellent.. I can't fault the hotel and the bed was very comfy.. Now the price... £145 for 1 night with Breakfast for 1 person was steep... 7 night would have been £1,015.. Unfortunately the price of hotels in the UK are ridiculous.. Especially for 1 person as these are usually based on the room for 2 people. So single occupants loose out quite a bit.. But listen... Great hotel and would recommend.

We stayed recently for 1 night in room 24 the mews in the car park area of this hotel, the noise from people entering and exiting from above our room was very noisy the staircase to access the rooms above us was incorporated within the bathroom ceiling of number 24, so every time someone came in or went out the noise was horrendous, the bathroom was disgusting mould everywhere, I complained to the manager on check out and provided him with photos of how disgusting the room was and he said this is not a true reflection of the rest of the hotel, so until the headquarters management decide to spend money on renovations do not even contemplate stopping in the Mews rooms. Evening meal and service in the restaurant was really slow and took 50 minutes to receive our food from sitting down, and then the pork tomahawk was as dry as cardboard, really disappointing after reading better reviews online, definitely not worth the money until things improve.

Stayed the night at the Golden because we spent our honeymoon there 47 years ago so it was a trip down memory lane. We were given a very warm welcome on arrival, and due to our mobility issues, our luggage was carried to and from our room. The room was very comfortable and we think it was the room we had on our honeymoon, but obviously updated. It was well equipped . We ate at the hotel in the evening and had an excellent meal. Breakfast the next morning was again, excellent with plenty of choices. Wont leave it so long before we return again

Stayed the night for a Birthday treat for my wife.   Booked the indulge package which included a room upgrade, bottle of prosecco in the room on arrival, three course evening meal and breakfast. On arrival greeted at reception and given room details, reception told us as it was my wife's birthday she could have main course and pudding free, I said, that's great but we've already paid as part of the package, I asked I've we could have a bottle of wine with evening meal as gesture......no can do, there's a stock check on Tuesday and it would be missing.  Asked if there was anything.....I'll speak to the manager and see what we can do. On opening the room, an upgraded room as per the package...very nice...looking out on the Market Square, really nice.  However, no prosecco as per the package, back down stairs, and the manager was on the desk, I mentioned the prosecco was missing, he said he'd bring it up, he went on to say as we had had room upgraded there was nothing more to be offered.....but I paid for upgrade ! Disappointed 😞 The food for evening meal was really nice, but staff were little too attentive, asking if we wanted our next courses when I've only just put my knife and fork down.... Breakfast was lovely, a top meal. Booking out, tried to bill us for evening meal, had to explain already paid, even stated this on receipt. Summary.....great food and room, service requires more attention to detail...would I visit again, I'm afraid not.

Amazing hotel in Thrisk, right in the centre. Staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was so lovely and I love all the sheep pictures and statues everywhere gives it character. We had a great nights sleep and the breakfast the next morning was amazing. We will definitely be booking again to return. Highly recommend staying here.

Paid a lot of money for a poor room very small bathroom only one person in at a time when on the toilet you can rest your chin on the sink, The wardrobe had a door missing and the rest of the room was very small and tired.
