Fantastic food and really nice atmosphere. Really tastefully decorated. Great for children. The decor was lovely and extra touches made it special, such as napkins and good quality cutlery. Very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

Friendly staff, very accommodating as we came in later in the evening. Great pub food at reasonable prices, steak pie and haddock were great, and the sauce for the haggis Bon Bon starter was delicious. Just what was required after two rounds of golf!

Came to stay for a friends wedding and couldn’t have been happier with this lovely hotel! Rooms are so modern, bathrooms and amenities are 10/10 and the included breakfast was wonderful! On top of this, the staff are incredibly friendly- would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to stay in Crail!

Absolutely fantastic and super welcoming. Love the bar and food selection. The General Manager is awesome and always cares about guests. It’s definitely the place to visit if youre around. The rooms are also awesome for such a close trip into St Andrews.

Unfortunately my recent dining experience at the Bal was no better than my previous one. I was with others, and although we all had different meals, the general feedback was that each meal was very bland. If you can't get the basics right e.g., a simple tomato sauce for pasta, or a lasagne, how can you expect customers to return? Even the bread I was served with my lasagne was the most tasteless bread I have ever had. The risotto was tasteless too. Come on Bal, you can do better than that. People aren't looking for perfection, just decent food at a decent price. On a more positive note, our servers, particularly the young girl with dark hair, was very good. It is clear that she is inexperienced, however top marks for her efforts!

We wanted to host a get together the day after our wedding to catch up with all friends and family staying. We visit Crail often so I had met with Gillian a few times. We maintained contact over email. Her organisation and communication was great. Nothing was too much trouble. Gillian presented us with various wonderful buffet options for our party. They were actually all too good to choose from so we were able to amalgamate dishes from each of the packages. The food was really very good! A lovely mixture of picky bits along with a nice hot offering of stovies. The tables inside were beautifully decorated with fresh petals but as it was such a beautiful day we remained largely outside, soaking up the sun! I would definitely recommend hosting any family get togethers or celebrations at The Bal. Gillian, Sean and the team are friendly, warm and welcoming. I can only hope I get to have another ‘do’ there, or perhaps attend one!
