North West Castle Hotel

Had an excellent stay here, the staff were really friendly and helpful and it was in a good location for the town centre

Stayed at the hotel for its close proximity to the Cairnryan Port due to an early ferry departure the following morning. We had a comfortable room fit for our needs, with ample space for the family. There is a car park onsite. We arrived late and left early, so weren't able to use the facilities, but the areas we did see were well presented. They were kindly able to arrange a takeaway breakfast for us, as we were leaving before breakfast was served.

This hotel is old fashioned, it has old decor, a curling rink, swimming pool and my children lived staying here. Beware breakfast is served until 9.45am and they have cleared the buffet away by 10am so you have little time to actually eat.

Been visiting here for lunch for years now. Stayed a handful of times as well. The hotel is indeed dated, but I feel they reflect this adequately in their prices. I cant emphasise enough how good the food is at NWC. Every time it’s smashing. Consistent, generous portions at reasonable prices. The bar is also very reasonably priced. I highly recommend here for food or staying if you’re travelling on the ferry. Only criticism I have is I wish they’d open the curling rink bar all year round.

We were given a spacious room overlooking the Loch, after the trip up in the carpeted lift it felt like stepping into a 60's time warp. The beds were comfortable and the plumbing all functional if a bit dated with a Mira shower. There was a view of the loch and a nice sunset but it's hard to ignore the abandoned marshalling area for the ferries. Its about 12 years since the ferry business moved to Cairnryan and I guess its cheaper to close the gates and walk away. Its surprising the council and MPs have let it all deteriorate for so long. Dinner was in the spacious restaurant and it was nice to see all the white table cloths and staff were friendly and helpful. The food was another matter, the Panko prawns (just 3) were coated in a powerful Chilli loaded Cajun spice that killed all the taste. Heavy handed and unnecessary like the peppery sauce on the Pork main course.

My Wife and I (both in our 40’s) stayed here for 2 nights and had an absolutely brilliant time. Having read reviews before I arrived, I read some comments saying “dated” decor but I think it’s just a case that the interior matches the exterior, which is beautiful. We booked a family room (to guarantee us a double bed as we alway hate twin) with a view of the loch. The view was lovely. The room itself was really nice. Comfortable bed and a bath/shower too. My only (tiny) feedback on the room was that the remote control has YouTube and Netflix buttons but neither worked. I was actually glad they didn’t and we spent much of our time away from the room. It was perfect for us. On the first night, we sat in the bar for a few drinks. The barmen were really nice and funny. I asked for some Whisky advice and it paid off. The first morning for brekkie we went down to the hall. Breakfast was so well cooked (on the hottest plates i’ve ever touched haha). STORNOWAY BLACK PUDDING!!!! My favourite. We got brekkie delivered to the room on morning 2 and ate it looking out to the lake. We’ve been invited to a wedding next year and theres only 1 place we’ll be staying. Can’t wait to get back.

We had a brilliant stay here. The place is dated with regard to decor but that actually works in its favour, especially as it’s immaculately clean and in good condition. The staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful especially Mo and Oliver. Lovely views across the loch, very comfy beds, great shower pressure, decent food and sensible bar prices. The only slight negative is it’s very warm! 100% we’ll be back.

Won’t lie we expected more with the name title. The Sunday meal was frozen vegetables served with meat & gravy which had no taste & we left so much on our plate as expected more. We did think we was visiting a castle but it’s just in the name. The place is outdated and we will not be returning.

Once again spent a most enjoyable jazz weekend here.It has the friendliest staff we have ever experienced at any hotel we have ever stayed in.The food was excellent as was the organisation of the bands,we have already booked for next year.Ian the manager always had a smile on his face as had Mo the bartender,Saffi the waitress andYvonne.All in all a most enjoyable weekend.
