Spruce Pine Inn / Spruce Pine Motel at 379 Oak Ave, Spruce Pine, North Carolina, 28777 The manager/operator of the motel was absent from the office when I showed up to check in near 5:00pm on a Saturday evening. I waited for 2 hours and spoke to "self-proclaimed housekeepers" who said they would get ahold of the manager, but disappeared. There was a sign on the front office window with a phone number to call the manager, Renee. I called the number - and there was no answer. There was a doorbell to summon the manager - I pressed it, but there was no response. I called the "Blue Ridge Reservations" reservation system that charged an additional $15.99 to the motel fees - in order to try to resolve this problem. The reservation representative from "Blue Ridge Reservations" tried calling their on-file phone numbers to the Spruce Pine Inn/Motel management with no luck. They promised a refund, but never came through with it. They would keep me on hold for several several rounds of several minutes at a time. At this point, I began thinking that this motel and possibly the reservation system is scamming customers. It appeared that the Spruce Pine Inn/Motel was supporting permanent or long-term residents. The motel office door was open, there were video cameras recording any activity in the office, and the computer, phone, and office supplies were all out in the open. One resident offered to call me if she got ahold of the manager. The resident called back around 9pm Saturday night to tell me that she was not successful in finding the manager. I was unable to stay at Spruce Pine Inn even though I had pre-paid in full and had a guaranteed reservation!!
