It was ok

Stayed here for two nights in September 2024 (Friday/Saturday) for visits to the immediate area. Located in a business area which was very quiet on the days that we stayed. Close to retail and restaurant options. Room was in very good condition. Comfortable bed, large walk-in shower. Hotel has a pool. Breakfast is included. There were good options available (hot and cold). There was a parking fee which was $3/day at the time that we stayed.

HIDDEN CHARGE ALERT! Despite this hotel has a very large parking lot like any other midlevel where you would expect parking to be included in the price of the room. This hotel, though, will charge you $3 per day for parking. THERE ARE NO SIGNS IN THE LOT INDICATING THAT THIS IS PAID PARKING, NOR ARE THERE ANY SIGNS IN THE LOBBY. This is a DECEPTIVE practice and they will not tell you about this charge unless you ask. I noticed this in a review and asked about it up front. which is when we were told that yes, they do charge for parking. Please don't take this charge out on the staff, obviously this is a decision from management who doesn't care about being deceptive to their customers, and the front desk staff was very helpful when we inquired about it. Having said that, let's start with the good: All interactions with the front desk staff was professional and courteous. They were polite and responsive and resolved any of the concerns we had. Our room was clean and had a large bathroom with a large walk-in shower. And other than the despicable parking issue, there wasn't any serious red flags. However, this hotel does not live up to the expectations I had of a Marriott property. First, our room (king bed) was unusually small for a mid-level brand, I've stayed in economy hotels which were much more spacious. The window had multiple fingerprints on it and there were places that the wallpaper would have benefited from being wiped down. Aesthetically, wallpaper was misaligned. Again, none of these are deal-breakers, but it felt like the owner/builder was more interested in cutting corners than providing a great customer experience. Our bed wasn't comfortable, but this is contingent on personal preferences. It wasn't old, worn or damaged, it just wasn't comfortable to us. A few more pillows would also be nice. The swimming pool wasn't unusable but it was visually obvious that it was in need of a good cleaning and general maintenance. The pool appeared to lack circulation and the floor of the pool was discolored. Probably was still safe, but chemical treatment is only part of the answer. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The cereal dispensers contained cereals that were different than the labeled product. Coffee (from airpot dispenser) tasted stale and old. And they close breakfast at 9:30 on a weekend. In better hotels, when they are preparing to close breakfast the host/hostess comes around to let everyone know. Not here. 9:28 and they were already taking stuff down. Would have loved the opportunity to grab a waffle (when I made my first trip, there were lots of people in line), but by 9:30 the irons were turned off and the mix was closed up. Aside from the parking issue, I would have given this hotel a strong "3" rating. But when you add that to everything else, it is clear that this hotel has earned a lower rating. Parking is NOT free - $6 charge which we did not find out about until we returned home & saw the cc charge. Stayed 2 nights and no room cleaning or fresh towels. Hotel needs a thorough cleaning and upgrading. Desk person was busy watching her toddler wander around the lobby. There are better places to stay in the area.

The problems started the night I arrived and I did not have any hot water to take a shower. I decided to try again in the morning but when i still didnt have any hot water, I went to the front desk. She took my room number down and said someone would be by to fix it. That night, I was still umable to get hot water. I went to the front desk who said she couldnt move me because they were fully booked so i should run the water for 10 minutes so the hot water tank (which was on the other side of the hotel) could reach my room. I did that (against good conscience but i was desperate) and it was still not warm enough for a shower. She advised me to try again in the morning. Imagine telling all hotel guests to run the water for 10 minutes! What a waste. The next morning, 10 minutes of wasting water was effective finally for a shower. By then i realized i had been bitten by something. Then i stripped the bed and found a few bed bugs. Took some pictures and a video and went to the front desk. That lady took my name and number, pictures and said a manager would be in by 9. When i hadnt heard from anyone by 10:45, i called the hotel and was told there was no manager on site. I was then told to call The Third Party App I booked with if i wanted a refund (I hadnt even mentioned the word). I said I had asked to speak to a manager because I would think they would care to hear about the experience I had. They should offer solutions to help me rectify it. I have never had worse customer service in my life.

Adequate might describe this Fairfield Inn. Positive: quiet location, close to two large malls, with plenty of restaurants. Bed was comfortable. Buffet breakfast ok, but nothing to rave about. Kept well supplied. Negative: breakfast area furniture is shabby and worn. Not a few, but every single chair and booth bench. Gives very poor first impression. Room heating system is antiquated. Our room was not cleaned the day after our arrival for 3 night stay. Bathroom was not swept or floor mopped, carpet not vacuumed, toilet bowl not scrubbed out, counter not cleaned, toiletries not replaced, loose toilet seat not tightened despite talking with desk person about this. This hotel is not terrible, but it is below our standards for a Marriot Fairfield Inn. Will not stay here again. There are better choices in Reading in this price range.

Stayed at this location for a couple nights while visiting the Reading area. Staff were polite and very helpful handling our needs during the stay. Hotel was clean and comfortable, although there were aspects that could use some renovation/maintenance (e.g., the room door/doorframe was starting to warp and wouldn’t easily close). Building was conveniently located to restaurants and other nearby activities. Decent breakfast options in the morning, although nothing especially noteworthy or unique. Did appreciate that they had options like scrambled eggs and sausage links in addition to the bagels and waffles.

We spent five nights at the Fairfield in Wyomissing. The location is excellent, in a business park that’s convenient to restaurants, shopping and various highways. The hotel is showing its age and could use a facelift. The furnishings in our room were somewhat worn and marginally comfortable. I noted that the carpets in the hallway were covered in stains-the stains were not obvious, but if you looked closely they looked like the oil-stained floors in an old garage. Service was marginal. The young man working the front desk when we arrived seemed to be far more interested in whatever was on his cell phone than checking us in. He may have said a half-dozen words through the entire process. Other staff were a little better, but not much. Breakfast was below average. In particular, there were no lids for the coffee cups at the coffee station, so you had to carefully carry your coffee around in order to not spill it or burn yourself. (I wondered if that was part of the reason for the stained carpets.) On our last day we ran out of facial tissue; I was told the hotel was out when I asked for more. (That was on a Friday evening; I assume they would be out through the weekend unless they get delivery of supplies over the weekend.) We stayed at the Fairfield because two other hotel choices in the area were in the midst of construction/refreshes at their properties. Had that not been the case, we would have stayed at one of them. I was left with the impression that the Fairfield is managed and run on a shoestring budget-lesser quality products and limited quantities of supplies, with no concern as to the inconvenience of guests when they run out. We’ll look at other options when we return to the area.

We stayed one night, and the hotel was away from the main roads. When we checked in, the person was excellent. She was able to recommend a local gluten-free option restaurant. The ease of check and her help was extremely helpful. We would stay at this hotel again.
