Hotel Gardenia Sorrento, Ascend Hotel Collection

Unfortunately, our experience at Hotel Gardenia was overshadowed by poor hospitality and maintenance issues. The staff, particularly the evening and night shift concierges, displayed unprofessional and rude behavior throughout our stay. On our first night, the older male concierge working the evening shift was dismissive and unfriendly when we asked where to buy water. Although we couldn’t understand everything he said to another employee, it was clear from his tone and demeanor that he cursed at us. The second night, a woman at the front desk was even worse. Neither of them gave their names. When we arrived with a pizza to enjoy on our room’s balcony—furnished with chairs and a table—she abruptly stopped us and yelled that eating in the rooms was not allowed. She went as far as to claim that we would make the room dirty and stain the linens, effectively prohibiting us from even entering the hotel with the pizza. This was an outrageous and insulting attitude toward guests who were paying for the room and service. Her behavior was beyond rude and completely unprofessional, leaving us feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. Additionally, the room had significant maintenance issues. The shower drainage was blocked, forcing me to stop midway through my shower and wait nearly five minutes for the water to drain to avoid it overflowing. Standing in the cold while waiting for the water to clear was extremely unpleasant. To make matters worse, there was visible mold on the shower glass where it joins with the floor and at the top. We have pictures to document these issues, which raise serious concerns about the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities. While the hotel appears clean at first glance, these maintenance problems and the unfriendly, unprofessional staff made our stay extremely disappointing. If you value proper hospitality, functional amenities, and a welcoming environment, I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. Poor service, rude staff, and lack of proper maintenance completely overshadow any positives this hotel might have.

Room was perfect, well sized balcony. The staff were very kind and helpful. We ended up eating at the restaurant one night and believe me when I tell you. Make sure Tizianna is cooking! A* food. The pool was clean and tidy, they offer excursions from the desk and are well priced! The location is perfect as it’s only a 10 minute walk from town so your fair enough away to not hear everything but close enough to walk in for a evening night cap

I stayed at the Gardenia for 4 nights and found it to be a lovely hotel with fantastic staff. I booked directly through the hotel website the price the most competitive available. Email communication was good up to arrival, and check-in was straightforward with the professional and friendly Antonio. My room 209 was a superior, giving views over the pool and across the bay of Naples and Vesuvius, which were excellent. As with the rest of the public areas, the room was presented to a high standard and clearly been refurbished recently. The room was equipped with a fridge (complimentary water), air con, flat screen TV, safe, balcony.and a large en-suite with single level walk-in shower, bidet etc. There was a fairly slick lighting control panel, and with the efficient black out curtains, it was great for a good night sleep. Breakfast was served on ground floor and had an excellent choice of hot and cold items. Outside, there's a nice shared pool with the hotel next door, with a pool bar. The hotel has a small bar, and in addition to breakfast, when I was there, lunch and dinner were served, which were good quality. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Sorrento along what's a fairly busy road, the slight downside being a couple of pinch points on the pavement. In summary, I really liked this hotel, which I would describe as boutique style, presented to a high standard. What stood out were the staff, all very professional but more importantly friendly, Antonio, Emanuela and Tiziana names that stood out, but the same could be described for the staff I met. I certainly wouldn't hesitate in returning to what is a lovely, welcoming hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel Gardenia in August 2024…lovely family run hotel in great location in Sorrento, the hotel is very clean, has all the amenities you wanted for a great holiday. Rooms were pleasant, spacious and well equipped, we had a large balcony too) Good breakfast to start your day, it caters for all and the service was great. Also a well stocked bar for evening drinks. Our room was cleaned daily and fresh towels left each day. The staff were always happy to help and nothing was too much when asked, whether that was at breakfast, reception or poolside. Towels were also available for use at the swimming pool. Would definitely recommend Hotel Gardenia and look forward to come back in the future.

We stayed for over a week at Hotel Gardenia Sorrento as part of our honeymoon, and we absolutely loved it. From the moment we arrived and we were given fresh glasses of lemonade from the trees in the garden (and a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate our honeymoon!) to the lovely staff who were so friendly and made our trip very memorable as they were helpful, chatty, and nothing was ever too much for them. It felt very much like home for the week. Special shout out to Emanuela on reception who gave us some great dinner recommendations and also helped my sister-in-law (all the way from England) organise a bottle of prosecco and red wine to be delivered as a surprise to our room while we were out for the day! Also, very sorry we never caught their names, but another shout out to the father and son (both who work there), the father who managed to get the English football on for my husband and sat chatting with us for a while in the lounge area while it was on. It was lovely to meet you both! Finally, the lovely lady who worked at the bar, making me the most amazing limoncello spritz, recommending my husband some lovely pale ales, and convincing me to eat up all the free bruschetta (it was delicious!) The room was great, clean and tidied every day, balcony got used daily, and the aircon was very much needed after a long day in the sun. Breakfast had lots of variety and items changed slightly every day so you never got bored of eating the same things! Cappuccinos each morning also went down a treat. Highlight for me is the pool access, we spent a whole day by the pool, having cocktails from the pool bar bought over to us all day! Just a tip for anyone going, drinks from the hotel bar can be charged to your room, but drinks or food from the pool bar has to be paid for then and there (before you leave the pool area) because the pool is technically the neighbouring hotel’s pool, so they cannot charge to Hotel Gardenia rooms. You cannot tell though, as it feels as if you are still in your own hotel as the pool bar staff are also very friendly! Location in general is great, a lovely 10/15 minute walk into the main Sorrento town and being on the main road it’s a simple walk straight down. It’s equal distance to Sant’Agnello (where I found my favourite little free beach) so if you’re getting the Circumvesuviana train from Naples or visiting Pompeii, you can get off at either the Sorrento station or Sant’Agnello station, it makes no difference to walking time. Overall I would rate Hotel Gardenia more than 5/5 if I could, and we are looking forward to retuning some time in the future with the rest of our family! This is one of my favorite Choice properties because of the people and service. From the two front desk people, to the delightful woman who makes the best spaghetti bolognese, to the cleaning woman who always greeted me with a smile and hello, the people here were the best! The part owner Tony...he is great! They have fresh squeezed juice and so I bought a bag of citrus to see if I could use their machine. It was broken so Tony took the bag and hand squeezed them all and then before I left, gave me a bag of their own Sorrento Lemons from their trees. Why? Just to be nice. I wish all hotels could take a lesson about service and just kindness from this location. Thank you to all at this location!
