Pros: Proximity to PA Turnpike and various places to eat, renovations are creating modern and pleasant rooms, friendly staff, outstanding free breakfast. Cons: Area definitely isn't a place of beauty. My requirements- a place to spend the night while passing through the area- were simple, and the Hampton Inn Somerset didn't let me down. Despite being in the middle of a renovation, I didn't experience any related inconveniences. In fact, had it not been for the rear parking lot filled with old furniture and fixtures, I never would have known work was being done. My spacious, clean, and comfortable room was new, and I'm assuming representative of Hampton Inn's current style. It included a sitting area, furniture with lots of storage, and a fantastic bed. I wasn't in this space very long, but it was a nice place to spend time. All of the staff I encountered was friendly, and the free breakfast was comprehensive, consisting of cereal, pastries, waffles, cheese omelettes, and crispy bacon. I've stayed at much more expensive properties and received much less to start the day, so this hotel scored points for exceeding breakfast expectations. The property is immediately off the Pennsylvania Turnpike exit- an area featuring a small variety of restaurants and convenience stores (with even more further up the road). Too bad it isn't much to look at- a charming main street this is not. However, it wouldn't stop me from staying here next time I'm passing through.
