"You might have an idea of what to expect from a hotel stay: to be greeted at the front desk, to have a bar and a breakfast service on the premises, to stay in a room which is serviced with fresh towels and clean linen... There's none of that here. We stayed for a week and some days saw no staff (there's a webcam in reception). There were tea and coffee making facilities in our room when we arrived but this was never replenished, the towels were never changed, the bed was never changed; the curtain was hanging off the rail; the bar downstairs was never opened. The website claims that breakfast can be booked for £10 per person but good luck finding anyone to book it with. There are a number of very pleasant hotels along Queens Road but sadly this isn't one of them."

"3-Nacht-Unterkunft in einem wunderschönen Zimmer. Selma konnte nicht genug für uns wie mit allen freundlichen Mitarbeitern tun. Frühstück war delightful und Piping hot, sp. für Selbstbedienung. Sehr nahe am Strand, was ideal und so ruhig und auch die lokale Stadt, wieder so schön war. Ich hatte nie genug Zeit, um alles zu sehen, was wir wollten, so wir werden sicher wieder sein. "Heavy delusion This hotel can boast an excellent location, in front of the beautiful English Channel sea, with the beach just across the street. It has a lovely patio with tables, where to rest and have food and drinks. The service is quite basic and informal: bare tables, no table cloths, self serving with cutlery, plastic glasses. Food is average, but enjoyable. The staff is very young, some of them kind and helpful, some others nearly bothered by the inconvenience And now, down to the substantial issues: the place is an absolute pigsty. We had two standard rooms, a double and a twin, very compact and basic, with not even a table and a chair. My room overstending the kitchen, with complementary smells and noises, my friend’s overlooking the wall of the mountain above head, which made the room as dark as being in a cave. The rooms are extremely run-down and poorly maintained. The furniture and décor are outdated, and it is evident that little or no maintenance have been carried out for many years. The walls and ceiling are as this as paper, so that you hear every noise from above and nearby rooms Yet, what was very upsetting (and disgusting) was the unacceptable state of cleanliness of both rooms and of the entire hotel. A noticeable build-up of dirt and grime everywhere, it is evident that the place, and the rooms, haven’t been deep-cleaned in years. The first day, the housekeeping was not performed, so I asked whether it was included in the rate. They told me that for reason of hygiene, they don’t do housekeeping after the check in, unless required by the guest. Although I don’t understand this reason, as a matter of fact, no one informed us about this rule at the check in. However, on the third day the housekeeping was provided, on my request. Which means that the staff put new towels, emptied the bins, put clean cups, but didn’t remove the used towels and shower mat (they were left on the bathroom floor as they were), they didn’t even remake the bed and apparently didn’t made up the room properly. Last but not least, that same evening of the third and our last day, no hot water came from either the shower or the tap. We informed the staff the following morning, but they didn’t bat an eyelid. I would have expected at least a little reduction of the rate, given the discomfort caused by that inconvenience . Overall a very negative experience. I definitely suggest avoiding this hotel. It is absolutely overpriced for the level of comfort and maintenance provided. There are many better places. It’s preferable to spend a little more and have a cosy place, than this dump."

"Can highly recommend this bed and breakfast. Christine is a lovely host, friendly and helpful. The room and en-suite was nicely furnished, very clean. Tea and coffee making facilities with a small fridge and on arrival 2 pieces of homemade cake, a lovely touch. The breakfast choice was extensive and all beautifully cooked and presented. The homemade bread was a bonus ! Well situated for short walk to beach or town. Highly recommend. Thank you Ian and Shelagh"

"Die Woche vor dem Urlaub, unser Gastgeber, Rae, sandte einen wirklich nützlichen und umfassenden Leitfaden in die Gegend einschließlich Restaurants sowie Informationen über die Wohnung. Die Wohnung selbst war fantastisch, gut eingerichtet mit qualitativ hochwertigen Möbeln und Bettwäsche und einem sehr komfortablen Königsgröße Bett. Die Küche hatte alles, was Sie für Ihren Aufenthalt brauchen. Überall war absolut unspottbar und geschmacklos dekoriert. In einer ruhigen Gegend war die Wohnung gut für Wanderungen zum Strand oder zum alten Dorf. Ich würde sehr empfehlen Fernhurst Fernhurst Fernhurst ferner - buchen Sie direkt um den besten Preis!"

"Ein wirklich tolles Erlebnis von Anfang an zu beenden Paul und Vicki die Besitzer sind so willkommen und freundlich und nichts war zu viel Problem. Ich fand dieses wunderschöne Hotel online und so glücklich mein Partner und ich entschieden über den Havelock. Die Zimmer sind sehr buchstäblich und sauber und in einem hohen Standard dekoriert, das Frühstück ist sehr schön mit einem großen Menü mit viel Auswahl, es gibt eine Kettle im Zimmer mit schönen Kuchen und eine schöne Auswahl von heißen Getränken. Es gibt einen schönen Pool am Rücken, der so entspannt und eine schöne Bar mit einem großen TV für diejenigen, die einen entspannten Abend mögen. Das Havelock befindet sich in einer brillanten Lage nahe dem Strand und nahe dem alten Dorf Shanklin mit einer großen Auswahl an Restaurants. Ich empfehle dieses Hotel, das für alle etwas hat."

They took a really friendly approach, chatted to us and were so helpful and responsive when needed. The hotel is not fancy but it’s nice. It’s clean. It’s comfortable. The breakfast is good. Westbury Lodge
"This was our second visit to Westbury Lodge B&B, Shanklin. Isle of Wight. We travelled as foot passengers on the ferry from Portsmouth to Ryde Pier Head, then caught the train to Shanklin which takes about half an hour. Westbury Lodge is about a fifteen minute walk from the station. Upon arrival we were met by hosts David & Rosemary, shown our room and then had tea and coffee in the guest lounge. We stayed in room 2 on the ground floor for the second time, which is a thumbs up to the room itself. Breakfasts were excellent, plenty of everything. During our stay we walked along the esplanade to Sandown to the north and Ventnor and Steephill Cove to the south, where they sell crab pasties in the Crab Shed. An excellent find. Another walk later in the week was along the old railway line into Wroxall. The bus service is very good and you can get anywhere on the island without using a car. There are plenty of places to eat in Shanklin and Ventnor and you are spoilt for choice, one place in particular is the Ventnor Kitchen Bistro, for something a bit different. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Westbury Lodge and will return. Terry & Linda"

"This was a 2-night stay for work. Good communication with John before arrival. Provided with a paid parking ticket for the railway station car park (less than 5 minute walk) on arrival. I had a room 3 facing the garden, great room, comfortable bed, good ensuite, good TV and WiFi. Breakfast is included in the price, but due to my work commitments I had to leave before the timed start of breakfast of 8:15am. I was provided with Bacon sandwich and bottle of water for me leaving each morning at 7:30am - this is great customer service! Places to eat and take away within walking distance. Allowed to use the dining room if bringing food back - which was way nicer than eating in the bedroom."
