Finca Carpe Diem

Warning! This place is great for backpackers. Not so much for people in their 60s. The accomodations, food, service were all fine. The owners/managers need to make very clear that guests should not attempt to drive to the location and that unless they want to spend $$ hiring a 4x4 from Bonda, the only alternative is to ride on the back of a motorcycle for 45 minutes on VERY primitive roads. Again, not suitable for most older people. The are some sights within reasonable hiking distance but the real attraction for this location is a jumping off point for overnight backpacking.

Amazing location in the jungle close to the river and numerous waterfalls. Good, healthy food with a large menu to choose from. Very friendly staff creating a warm and welcoming environment that is also perfect for relaxing and meeting other people travelling.

We lived Finca, it was simply a beautiful place to stay to get some relax and recuperation, would have loved to stay longer. It’s away from all the hustle and bustle of Colombian cities and allows you to relax. There’s nobody badgering you. It’s simple pools and jungle. Nice bedrooms as well.

After a full adventure just to get to Carpe Diem, we were super happy to be there. The always present sound of the river is soothing, the water refreshing! Cascades and view point, guides walks, swimming pools, you can easily stay a few days. Lovely cottages and amazing food. Well done, great work!

Was a Great hostel, had a beautiful view from the top swimming pool, very relaxing and they served delicious organic foods! The Finca cacoa tour is aswell highly recommended, an amazing experience by a local farmer!

Stayed here with my four friends - great reviews on Hostelworld and ***********. Arriving to the hostel was a difficulty in itself, being located nowhere near Minca and the road being so poorly paved it requires a half an hour motorbike journey through water and bumps in the road. We had booked a cabana room for a bit of luxury after the lost city trek, on arrival we noticed the floor was wet and the bed sheets/pillows incredibly damp. We notified the staff of this fact and asked if another room was available. They said we should deal with it and that there's bad humidity at this time of year, strangely the humidity had no effect on any of our friends rooms which were all dry. After some persistence they agreed to move us to a "drier" room from the following night onwards, however this was just as bad. Due to how uncomfortable we were made to feel complaining the first time, we felt it easier to not say anything regarding the dampness in the 2nd room. The upstairs bar is infrequently manned which is a shame as the two pool areas surrounding are very nice with lovely views. The shower and bathroom facilities were clean although very basic. On our first morning we all asked if we could have some laundry done, we then asked if it was ready around 48 hours later and the woman at reception rolled her eyes at me and said no they were still wet and would be available when we checked out the following day. I also asked the cleaner if she had seen some shoes I left outside my first room to dry and she too rolled her eyes at me and said she'd check later if she'd found any. When we checked out the following morning the clothes we put in for laundry were still damp and we had to pack them into our rucksacks quickly to make it in time for our airport shuttle the hostel had booked for us. For our 10am flight we were informed a shuttle at 8am would get us there in time, we requested half 7 to be safe. The shuttle arrived at half 7 whilst we were sat waiting at reception however, the driver and the reception staff failed to inform us so we didnt figure it out our driver was here until around 8am- we subsequently missed our flight. Expecting a luxury hostel stay we were disappointed with the service provided so looked to write a review with our respecting booking systems of *********** and Hostelworld. We found that all of our bookings had been canceled meaning we couldn't leave a review- something we think will be applied to all guests with issues during their stay to ensure ratings remain high. Overrated and very remote, the only good thing was a tiny hidden bar 5 mins walk down the road. They cooked us dinner and we could stay as long as we wanted drinking, ask for Baptise and Alehandro if in the area! Such generous guys and the bar is really cool!

The option of 3 pools is amazing at a location like this. The sense of peace and quiet and relaxation is priceless! The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The food was only ok. We had a king bed "ecohut" that was very roomy, with a good fan that kept us comfortable at night. I had specifically wanted to stay here because of all the activities I had read were available, but the one I most wanted to do, bird-watching, was not. It sounded as if the guide was in Minca and would not be there on the day I had available. Ah well, I walked along the road early in the morning and saw and heard many birds on my own. They keep the grounds and pools clean, as well as cleaning rooms daily.

+ 3 nice swimming pools + good hiking opportunities + dorm rooms are cosy - the restaurant is not great. For example just forgot my order once. The quality of the food is average - the location is remote and you have to take expensive cars or moto-taxis without helmets to get there
