Upon checking in, there was no acknowledgement of being a IHG member nor our Holiday Inn Vacation Club membership. That was fine but unusual when checking in to any Holiday Inn property. We registered and went up to our room. Unfortunately when we opened the door the room had a strong cigarette smoke smell. We immediately returned to the front desk to request another room only to be denied because of a policy that once a room was assigned, there could not be any room changes. We explained we could not sleep in that room. She told us there was nothing she could do. So we asked to cancel the reservation and her reply was ”there are no refunds”. We were stunned. We arrived at your hotel and were graciously greeted by Vee Blyden who patiently listened to our plight. He responded with the words we were hoping to hear ”I can help you with this”. He was so personable and professional that we were immediately relieved. Vee truly made us feel like we were welcomed guests! As we have extended a one night stay into four nights, we have interacted with others on your staff and all were friendly and professional. You have created and nurtured an amazing team.
