The Holly Hill Inn

We had 2 separate rooms, this is close to the A1 and was a stop on the way to Scotland. We were welcomed by the manageress on duty, and shown to our rooms. We spent the evening playing darts and pool, with good Wensleydale Brewery beers to drink. We had rooms overlooking the fields towards Richmond and its castle, this would be walkable in 15 mins but down a steep hill by and back up the other side. The room had milk in a tiny fridge which was a nice touch for a morning cuppa, the breakfast was served early for us as we needed an earlier start than we originally thought when we booked , very good breakfast with proper sausages being the highlight. They have 4 rooms here but I would definitely use this inn again if I was in the area

Our second visit here for Sunday lunch within a couple of weeks because it was so good the first time. I have to say it did not disappoint. Gorgeous roast dinners and what a selection of desserts, all delicious. Since this establishment has been taken over it has improved tremendously. Will definitely be back.

1 mile from Richmond centre with a large car park. Our room was a good size, very modern in ap-pearance and spotlessly clean. Tea and coffee facilities, tv, no WIFI, it didn't work in the evening or following morning. Breakfast was a nice English breakfast, a choice of how eggs were prepared, scrambled or fried etc, and brown bread not just white would have made it better. Dinner was large portions of decent pub food, fine. But a cosy pub ambience is totally missing. A sparse white and grey room brightly lit with a dozen ceiling spotlights. Finally don't greet us with stating "£100 to pay " when you haven't checked and I have actually paid in advance. And while I don't exactly need help with luggage an offer is polite. So overall OK but could be improved.

Booked before new management took over but everything seemed to have been sorted and transferred over. Lovely, friendly staff, one blonde woman (didn’t catch her name) in particular very good with our nervous dog who was staying over with us. Food on Saturday night was exceptional 10/10 especially the chips! Sunday lunch wasn’t quite as good as we remember it being but as I say it is under new management so may be new chef. Our sleep wasn’t the greatest, we didn’t find pillows or mattress too comfortable but that could be personal preference, in terms of cleanliness it was spot on, tv in room and complementary tea/coffee, sugar and also 2 bottles of water. Will be booking up to stay again soon.

Only stayed one night lovely couple running it friendly locals,enjoyed dinner and breakfast,the room is a good size with a nice view over paddocks with horses As someone has already mentioned a 5 minute walk into town down steep hill aka cardiac arrest going up should of got a cab Would stay again

Stayed for 2 nights. Room was large and comfortable and the whole place looks as if just refurbished. Staff very friendly. Food is pub grub with large portions. Lovely beer garden with a great view of Richmond castle. Large car park. 10 to 15 walk into Richmond, but if you have mobility issues it is a steep climb up the hill coming back to the pub. Dog friendly.Small bar area with a decent selection of drinks, although on the fringe of Richmond it is popular with locals. Would certainly stay again.

What a lovely lunch. The menu is not extensive but good variety and cooked well with plenty to eat and enjoy. What shone out was the attention given to one of our party who has various food allergies. The chef came out and discussed what options she might like, what ingredients were being used and could not have been more helpful. Her choice was prawns with a delicious sauce and accompaniments. Great service, bright and light venue and we will be back.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights on a recent visit to Richmond and what a find. The hosts, Debbie and Paul have only recently taken over the running of the Inn and what a great job they are doing. The room was spacious, clean and had excellent views over to Richmond and the castle. We ate in one night and had an excellent home made chicken curry, no microwave "ding meal" here, all freshly prepared. The full English breakfast was more than enough for us, although I would have liked the availability of cereal , to be fair I didn't ask and I'm sure Debbie would have come up trumps if I had asked. The Inn has ample parking and is in walking distance of the town centre, if you can manage the hill down and then up into the town! The Inn in the evening was a cosy place to spend a couple of hours chatting in front of the roaring log fires, very welcome on a chill evening I can tell you. They also serve a delicious pint of Tim Taylors which went down a treat. There is a large garden that looks over to the castle and I would imagine in summer this will be an ideal area for families to meet and have a meal. All in all I can't recommend the Holly Hill in too highly and when we return to Richmond, which I'm sure we will, we will look to stay at the Holly Hill Inn.

We live in Richmond and decided to give the newly refurbished Holly Hill a try for lunch after a good walk with our Boston Terrier. The refurb is great the place looks so much more inviting and the staff were very welcoming providing water and treats for our dog. The lunch was lovely we could not fault it we will definitely climb the hill and visit again 😁
