The Rajbari Bawali

Oh my gosh this hotel is out of this world! Ten out of ten old calcutta reimagined with such class. Beautiful and stylish with great amenities. A nice isolated location with great food also. If you want to chill this is the place for a wonderful three days stay. Special thanks to Swapdip who looked after us personally. Like our own personal PA. We stayed in the best suite they had. Great for honeymoon this place is. Book it! Trust me you will not regret it!

Me & my husband booked the Royal Heritage suit for my birthday and later upgraded it to Zamindari suit. Had a great time there enjoying the beautiful scenic views, rich cultural food and warm hospitality by the staff especially Mr. Subhojit has been very helpful. My pet kitten also had an amazing time there.

I like very nice this place. Wonderful ambiance & peaceful place. There are very nice hospitality. People are very good behaviour. Most important thinks I like, this property is pet friendly. I obvious like to again visit this place with my pet.

Well maintained palatial property replete with history. The entire property has a lovely rustic charm and the staff are doing a very good job of maintaining it. They were courteous and efficient despite the weekend rush. There was a corporate event which could have been a bummer but was well managed thankfully. Our room wingman (Subhojit) was very helpful, kudos to him. We travelled with 2 young kids but had no challenges at all. Food in the dining area was fantastic, specially the thali lunch. The evening musical arrangement was mesmerising and added a special touch to my parent’s anniversary. It’s within easy reach of Kolkata and we would definitely recommend it.

Pretty underwhelmed upon finding a live snake in the bathroom. Since I was staying with elderly parents and small kids, we might have narrowly escaped a snake accident. If the owner chooses to monetize a wild habitat, at least make sure its safe for families- considering the exorbitant pricing of stay and food. And nobody cared to share a word of apology. In most international places, they would refund partial cost (that is not what I’m expecting). The food price will definitely burn a hole in your pocket , however the dining place is riddled with house flies. Could barely eat at peace. Flies all over fruits and yogurt and juices. Please invest on some fly catchers or cover food items! Not value for my money, in addition to safety concerns of snake. Wouldn’t recommend.

Overnight trip on one of their family suites , with family ,and in-laws +ves: - Novel concept , heritage property converted into hotel - very good service , appreciate the attention my personal valet - lunch ( zamindari fish thali was good) - suite itself was clean and well kept ( we had to ask to fix wobbly bedframe , which was attended to promptly) -ves: -Summer hot tropical weather was extreme humidity, walks were not pleasant for ones not used to such weather . - it’s smaller property than it seems in the pictures , ideal for indoor addas , but not much to do outdoors , gym was a placeholder , I felt pool is not much used either - beware of tropical insects - flies , mosquitoes, snakes - yes snake ! Which showed up in bathroom in the morning , and we had to scramble for help to capture it ( see pic) , this was an interesting exotic experience, scared the heck out of some family members. Overall I feel it’s a good concept in showcasing Zamindari history of rural Bengal , but I personally find it overpriced for the value . $700 for one night stay ( including meals) , I was expecting more , as compared to my experiences in other such interesting properties around the world.

Fabulous in every aspect, the structure, the effort gone in its restoration, the service and team, the rooms and bathrooms, everything was on point. Full marks to the owners for this feat, of managing to buy this beautiful Rajbari and restoring it with care and love. The food was to die for! I would go back and spend 2 more days in Bawali just to stay at the Rajbari and experience the fantastic hospitality, explore the palatial mansion and surrounding temples. Great experience and highly recommended!

This is almost a hidden gem close to Kolkata. Property is esthetically restored with comfortable and luxurious rooms. Has variety of facilities and activities available. Food is exceptional with traditional Bengali food plus Indian and continental options. Evenings there is a decent cultural program with dance and songs. What stands out is service. Staff is very polite and courteous, they don't say no to any reasonable request, that is rare in Bengal. Only down side is unavailability of WiFi. Kids also complained about No TV, but that's a good thing perhaps. Overall this has been an awesome experience.
