El Faro Containers Beach Hotel

Different hotel in that it's made out of shipping containers, modified into hotel rooms. I think this is a cool idea and a great way to reuse old equipment. The rooms are small (size of a container box with a bathroom added at the end) but functional. Rather bare-bones. Perfect, in my opinion, for a few night's sleep. Beds were OK, AC worked great. Cool views from the rooms. Pools were fun to hang out in. Loved the outdoor (covered) restaurant/bar. Grab a drink and get in the pool, or grab a drink and enjoy the view. Breakfast, lunch, dinner served at the restaurant. Food was average. Staff was courteous. Beware the hotel is up a steep hill. Only a few minutes walk from the bottom to the top, just very steep. The hotel has a golf-cart that can a Staff person will use to take your luggage up the hill upon arrival (and back down when checking out). Location is adjacent to restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. (at the bottom of the hill...). Recommended.

This hotel is great. Every single room has a great view of the ocean by design. The breakfasts are fantastic and the staff are great, too. We loved the golf cart service and rarely had to wait more than a minute for the cart. The location is amazing, right next to the national park and several restaurants. The pools were also great with views. We even saw a couple of sloths on the hotel property! I would recommend this hotel to families, couples, or friends!

The hotel staff and restaurant staff were amazing people who were very kind and helpful. However, the accommodations were very poor. The pictures make it appear much nicer than it actually is. The owner needs to refurbish and update the rooms. Our room was sparsely appointed and the bathroom fixtures were in much need repair. Only one outlet in the room which was taken up by the refrigerator plug. The rate is reasonable though so you get what you pay for. On the positive side, it does have an amazing view of the Pacific. It is also within walking distance to the national park and the beach so it’s location is a very good one. I would not suggest the hotel, however, for older people, as it is situated in an extreme vertical angle uphill, and you must rely upon the staff to transport you up and down to your room via electric cart

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a tour group. Fairly comfortable rooms, the upper pool has good views, and the restaurant and bar does good breakfasts though very poor and watery cocktails :(. It’s an intriguing hotel constructed of former containers (very green to recycle them) stacked above each other with walkways and stairways around plus lifts, and good quality beds, bathrooms and especially views out over the coast. The downside is that it’s all built on a really steep section of the hillside, above Reception down near street level. Baggage is transported up the steep block-paved access road to the rooms on a couple of electric golf carts, and guests can WhatsApp reception and get a lift if they’re free. The access road is seriously steep though - at least 1 in 3 and sometimes steeper. There’s a stepped path beside which is slightly easier to manage, but it’s a big deterrent to nipping down to the beach - and one of our group fell and fractured her hip when she tripped, which was a sobering experience for us all. Be aware if you choose to book - there are numerous other hotels in Manuel Antonio where you don’t have to negotiate a hill!

This hotel is built from shipping containers. It can be noisy between rooms, it is comfortable. We were in the upper building. Thankful they have a golf cart to take you up because it is quite a hike. Two warm pools, nice breakfast. The restaurant is expensive for other meals so better to go offsite. Beautiful views. Had a white-face monkey overturn our patio table! They did laundry for us, which was great. Walking distance to the beach

Amazing stay here. We only stayed one night but wished we would have stayed longer. Caleb at the front desk is so kind and lovely. I don’t know the names of the other staff but they were also all amazing. The hotel is on a steep hill but they offer golf cart rides up to your room and to town. Lovely pools overlooking the ocean. Also, the free breakfast was AMAZING. Best we had in Costa Rica, by far. I would recommend this hotel 10/10.

I spent one night here because the price was good, the location was perfect, and it looked like an interesting experience. I wish I had another night or 2. First, the staff is lovely. They were so friendly and helpful. Yes, the hotel is on a huge hill, but they gave me rides to my room and town. The pools and view were great, and I had a giant iguana outside. It's right outside of the park and has parking. The rooms are not that exciting, but I was only there to sleep, which I did very successfully! I loved my stay.

We were greeted by Caleb who was extremely kind and made us feel so welcome. He accommodated us very well, offered us a ride to the town with the golf cart, and gave us many recommendations for food. He was so pleasant and sweet. We really enjoyed the view and the food was delicious. We will definitely be coming back to El Faro beach hotel when we come back to Costa Rica!

Went here for 3 nights as part of a 15 day Intrepid tour of the country. Not the sort of place we would have normally stayed in as made from shipping containers which was meant to be something cool and modern. One of the rooms other members of the party were given has fungus growth in it. They complained and were moved to another room. This is a weird hotel and the Restuarant ( which was overpriced) was on the top floor over our room. So you can imagine the noise for chairs, tables and feet etc in the room from above. Living in a noisy metal shoebox wasn't ideal to say the least. Hotel is not advisable for those who are infirm or ageing as there is a steep climb even before you get to the non air conditioned steamy lift that takes you to the rooms. There is a cart to take you up but not always there. Nice couple of pools though and the view being high up is very nice of the bay. Lots of Iguanas around and monkeys which was a plus.
