I genuinely wish I could give Borgo Santo Pietro a 5-star rating, but I left feeling disappointed after our five-night stay for our honeymoon. My husband and I arrived the day after our wedding, having communicated with the property months in advance and booked the "Serenade of Love" honeymoon package. While there are definitely wonderful aspects to this hotel, I'll start with the cons. Given that it was our honeymoon, I expected a property of this caliber to go above and beyond to make our stay special. I have stayed at many hotels of this caliber around the world, and they usually acknowledge special occasions with gestures like delivering a bottle of champagne, offering special treats, providing a special bottle of wine to take home, or reserving a special table for dinner. Unfortunately, Borgo Santo Pietro did none of these. In fact, we often felt forgotten. Our wine tasting with the head sommelier was half an hour late, and our picnic felt rushed, with small bites that seemed like leftovers from breakfast. We were very let down and felt our special occasion was not acknowledged. Additionally, we had issues with the hotel's billing process. Every meal, wine order, and poolside snack was automatically charged to our room, and we only saw the grand total at checkout. This made it hard to remember everything we had ordered over 6 days and to verify the accuracy of the bill. Upon closer review at home, I discovered we had been double-charged for items (our airport transfers and Saporium dinner which we had pre-paid for) totaling over $1,000. While the hotel resolved this issue, it was disappointing, and I caution visitors to closely review their bill at checkout. Now, for the positives. The property is beautiful, and our room (the Unicorn Suite) was stunning. We enjoyed walking and biking around the property and hiking to the river. In hindsight, we should have planned some activities off the property, as by the end of our stay, we felt we had experienced everything the hotel had to offer and would have been satisfied with a four-night stay. We loved lounging by the pool and strolling through the gardens. The staff is incredibly kind, the Saporium tasting dinner was fabulous, and the pizza at the trattoria was the best we’ve ever had. However, we wouldn't recommend the picnic, as it included very small portions that seemed like leftovers from breakfast. Lastly, the spa was wonderful, we had several treatments there throughout our stay and I left with quite a few products from their incredible skin care line. I highly recommend the Chrysalis treatment. Overall, Borgo Santo Pietro is a gorgeous property, and if they can work out a few kinks, it will be perfect and a property we may consider visiting again.
