This is the third time I have stayed at the iberostar resorts in Bahia both at the iberostar Bahia and the selection. The selection is priced much higher than the Bahia, do you would expect an elevated service level. The Good points The hotel is set in spacious grounds with numerous swimming pools, right next to the beach, it is about 90 mins drive from Salvador, taxi costs about £55 at today’s rate. Check in is from 1500, if you arrive earlier you can use the facilities straight away and return to reception after 1500 for your room key. There is a large main buffet for meals, all of which were varied and of a high quality, there are also numerous speciality restaurants, French, Italian, oriental etc for which you need to make a reservation, be aware you are limited to the amount of times you can experience these based on your length of stay. The complex has a spa and theatre . The rooms are clean and functional with a mini bar and tv. At check in you are given the option to upgrade to star prestige level, this costs about £50 per day, for this you get exclusive access to a private pool with poolside service a lounge offering food all day and the ability to book speciality restaurants in the iberostar next door. This pool area is managed by rafael, who goes out of his way to make each guests experience a memorable one, both he and his team at the star prestige area were outstanding and they should be recognised for their commitment to guest satisfaction. The not so good. Check in is very very slow, I waited over 20 mins and it was not even busy. There is a hard sell to upgrade to star prestige level, having been in this hotel in the past I was aware of this and it suited me to upgrade. Meal times in the main buffet were a bit of a hit and miss regarding the table items,sometimes no cups, spoons,cutlery etc, trying to get someone’s attention to rectify this could be challenging. In the speciality restaurant on two occasions we were given the menus then left for ages without anyone coming to take orders, I had to complain twice about this. We had an issue with no hot water and then no toilet flush, having reported this someone came to the room, had a Quick Look, said “don’t know” and left, as this was late at night we left it to the next morning, again went to reception to get this sorted, no one seemed very interested. Later that day returned to room, not fixed, returned to reception and asked for the duty manager only to be told there is not one in today, really? Guest services witnessed our conversation and spoke to us saying there is always a duty manager, guest services took control of the situation and got the issue fixed very quickly,she even sought us out at the oool to tell us lol was now ok, however being lied to by reception is unforgivable. A peculiarity with star prestige is that you can book the restaurants in the iberostar bahia, but you cannot use the star prestige bar there, crazy, especially as there is no star prestige
