This hotel is a good stay a little walk from the center but a beautiful one. Some food places are around a 24 hour shop up road aswell, rooms are very clean would definitely recommend also looking at returning next year with friends. Staff are nice aswell.

Whala! Tenerife. Formerly Marola Portosin. This is a sad tale of a once magical hotel with a near perfect blend of components that made something very special now sadly losing its way. Over the last 2 summers something has gone very wrong and the experience has changed. Change can be good and for the better in most cases but this great little hotel has lost its charm. It's the small things. Plus one big thing that's taken the shine away. The bar is the heart of this hotel. Thankfully it still is. Tom, Cata, Lucy and Orehna work hard to give everyone a good time. The food is amazing with kitchen and menu changes making the food something to brag about. Always friendly and welcoming. The changes to the bar have been embraced by the staff and the new food options are first rate. During our holiday things have been marred by a bad experience that could happen anywhere. But it was handled terribly by the hotel management. A break in that involved multiple rooms, some violence and a lot of upset rattled many guests. Thankfully very little was stolen from the rooms and nobody was seriously hurt. Our Jet 2 Rep Charlotte did an amazing job to be on site and speak to everyone. Put us at ease and listen. Sadly the management on site here have been absent. No updates for the guests, no apologies for lapses in security, no news of any kind and most concerning no updates or help for their own staff! Thankfully Jet2 arranged for extra security presence but even that wasn't followed through correctly by the hotel management and the added uniform presence wasn't booked and present for yet another day. There are inconsistent behaviors from the management that leave a bad taste in your mouth. Silly policies about inflatables and plastic cup deposits are annoying but are enforced with enthusiasm. However large groups of all young male/stag parties shouting, running around and making a ruckus late into the night are left alone and not managed correctly. Reception staff are not able to do their job and be security guards too. Doors left unlocked. General security levels being poor have scared off a lot of guests that have been coming here multiple times a year for 15 years or more. Inconsistent cash only culture at reception for deposits and an impression of indifference when reasonable requests are refused. It's not that we demand our own way but if you've had a scare and upset... Maybe show your face and make sure that small gestures of kindness for the more vulnerable guests are offered. Whala! What are you doing? What are your plans? You really need to get the management to improve their engagement. Prices can't keep going up without investment in new doors, better security, refreshed decor and upgrades to comfort and security in our rooms. 2 out of 5 stars overall Bar and Staff 5 stars Hotel front desk 3 stars Local management zero stars!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review for Whala Tenerife self catering complex. Just returned home after 10 days. This complex is amazing value for money. We are a family of 4 - we always opt for 2 bedroom apartment so the kids and us have our own rooms. There is also the option of studio apartments and 1 bedroom apartments. The apartment was spacious and spotless (basic) but had everything we needed. Shower was hot and powerful. Ceiling fans were sufficient for the August heat (for us anyway). Rooms cleaned daily. All staff at the hotel couldn’t have been friendlier from the reception staff, to the cleaning staff. The pool bar staff and kitchen team were fantastic. No sunbed wars. Can’t access the pool area to 10am which ensures people aren’t leaving towels on beds through the night or at stupid o clock in the morning. Inflatables weren’t allowed in the main pool but were allowed in the children’s part of the pool. The location is great. 2 mercadonas (huge supermarkets) within a 5 minute walk - las vistas beach (golden sand) less than 10 minute walk and start of the golden mile less than a 10 minute walk. 2 play parks only a 5 minute walk for kids. A range of fantastic restaurants on your doorstep too! We already had the property booked for Christmas and next Easter (thankfully as not everywhere does 2 bedroom apartments). Tried to book to go back in 6 weeks but was fully booked (we have managed to book Mar Ola park next door for October) Anyone who is used to going to Oro blanco - this place is the exact same vibe. Oro blanco is closed indefinitely and we had been going there for years! However, whala has definitely filled that void for us. Couldn’t recommend the place enough!

We arrived home August 21st after a 13 night stay at the Whala! My nearly 10yr old son and I had an awesome time here. The pool bar was brilliant. (If a little pricey) but the staff Tommy,Cata and the other lovely ladies made us feel so welcome and the food and drinks were always spot on! Especially the frozen Daiquiri at 9 euros! The beds were great and very comfortable and the rooms although very basic and dated were always kept clean and fresh by the fabulous housekeeping staff. Our room was over the street, I didn't experience any noise that would disturb my holiday! I felt safe and comfortable whilst my son spent 6 of the evenings with his dad who lives on the Island. The pool itself was beautiful. There was a queue for sunbeds at 9.30am, but this added to my entertainment as I was up early doors anyways. I ate breakfast many mornings in the pool bar and sauntered over to sunbeds when the pool opened at 10am! The location was good for me as I know the area well and nowhere was too far on foot. Visit Meson Castallano for a steak which is over the road on El Camison! I would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat

Fantastic hotel, spotlessly clean and warm welcoming staff! The pool area was a favourite with my children! Relaxing atmosphere and fresh and airy lounge areas. We had a late flight and were offered to leave our bags there and use of facilities even after check-out! Front office staff so friendly and always a smile for us, will definitely be back and will tell all my friends! #IRISH TRAVELLER

First of all I’d just like to say thank you to everyone at Whala Tenerife! for making us feel welcome and for a wonderful holiday✈️️☀️ We booked these apartments when it was Marola Portosin so were a little worried when we saw it had changed even though we’d never been before but any worries we had after reading the odd bad review was set at ease. The reception staff are all very friendly and helpful and would talk to us when we saw them and we had a laugh. The cleaners were also very polite and friendly and did a thorough job cleaning and helping in any way they could. The apartments and complex inside and out are all cleaned to a very high standard. The apartment we stayed in was just right for us. Not too small and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The beds are very comfortable and we all slept very well. The ceiling fan was ok but we did rent an aircon unit from reception and it arrived promptly and was actually a decent price to rent for 2 weeks. No problems with the shower in fact the pressure is amazing and I wish mine was like that at home The hairdryer in the bathroom was also good as if you forget yours it doesn’t matter. The bar staff are such a credit to this place! Tommy, Lucy and the lovely young lady in the kitchen (I think she’s called Oriana) all made our stay very enjoyable and they couldn’t do enough for you. Let me just say Tommy’s strawberry daiquiris are amazing! It was so lovely to chat to them all and they made time for us which is definitely a reason to come back again. There was no sunbed wars, there were plenty of spare beds even when turning up in the afternoon. The pools were warm and inviting and I miss them There’s a lovely young lifeguard (I think he’s called Mario) I felt sorry for some of the stick he was getting from people when he told them no inflatables. He wasn’t being mean but it’s something that has been banned in ALL hotels and apartments under new Spanish Laws so it’s not the lifeguards fault, he’s just doing his job. There was a good mix of age groups when we went from young lads and lasses, to families like ourselves and a few older people but everyone seemed to get on and it wasn’t rowdy just a fun atmosphere. Luckily, we were not staying here long and booked for one night due to complications with another hotel, and we needed somewhere to stay just for one night and then we were going to the airport. Although my experience here was short and I didn’t use all facilities, I have never seen a dirtier smellier hotel. To walk in there is what I can only describe as a lucky lucky man selling pure tat on a table as you walk in, just when you think you can avoid it on the streets it’s now in your hotel. Receptionist area is old and run down. If you’ve ever seen the TV show benidorm, the hotel gave that sort of vibe old, outdated awful colour scheme etc. We get the room key and head upstairs, lift is dodgy and barely works properly for starters. We got to our floor and there was a long corridor facing a main road all open so there was nothing dividing the hotel room door to the main road and outside apart from a small walk way. Opened the door to the room and the smell nearly knocked me out. The over barring smell of chemicals and sick, like someone had done there best to disguise the smell and just thrown a load of bleach in. The sofabed was all broken with blood stains on, the bedding was simply a paper thin sheet, the safe was like something from 100 years ago. The balcony was VILE there was yellow/orange stringey spit like someone had been spitting over the balcony. A mop and cleaning products in the corner that a cleaner had clearly forgotten to take. Bars on the bedroom window made me feel like I was in a literal prison, I’m sure prison would probably smell nicer actually. No plug sockets in room apart from one next to mirror, not much good. One positive, bathroom was actually okay and clean. We accepted the room was grim and thought oh well we are only here for a good night sleep and then we can go to the airport. I might aswell have slept on a formula 1 track, or put a sleeping blanket on the motorway. Not even my airpods on full blast could cover the noise of outside, it kept making me jump because the cars felt so close. The sound of the road meant i was going to get no sleep, but no point in moving cos every room backed onto the same busy road. As i’m trying to sleep I can hear everything and i mean EVERYTHING from the room next door, walls are paper thin. People must have been getting ready to go out but there was glass being smashed outside our room, people banging and shouting, banging on doors. Arguments could be heard very loud and a constant doorbell noise. This was so loud it felt like it was in the living room. I barricaded the door with chairs because I have never felt so unsafe. I mean someone could kick the front door and it would open, it was hardly a proper door. I laid listening to every thing you could imagine, and I said right let’s go i’d rather sleep on airport floor. It was that bad. Before I knew it, it was time to go to the airport at 3am and I’d not slept once due to noise and fear of what was going on outside. If you ar
