It was good

This hotel is located right in the heart of Chinatown in Philadelphia, within easy walking distance of numerous great restaurants as well as the Reading Terminal and the Convention Center. The room itself was comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly. This is, however, not one of Choice Hotel's better properties. It was hard to find the hotel because there was no sign on the building, only one by the parking lot that was confusing. When we pulled into the parking lot and asked where the hotel was, we got yelled at by the rude attendant. The hotel itself does not have parking, but it is inches away from a parking lot that charges $25 cash $28 credit. The price is, however, great for the area. You can also find on-street parking, but you have to keep feeding the parking kiosk. The carpets are badly stained and show a lack of attention to upkeep. The hotel charges $5 if you don't return the little plastic key card, which I have never seen at a Choice brand before. The front desk person said that was because the owner tries to squeeze every penny out of the place. That would explain the badly stained carpets in the hallways. When we decided to extend our stay in Philadelphia, we decided to stay elsewhere.

the location was great i was worried i couldn't go shopping but i could because of how close the shops are its also very clean, staff was really friendly, breakfast was delicious, parking was great, the room was very good and the bed was very comfortable and overall was a great stay.

We stayed 6 nites at this Chinatown location, owned by the Choice Hotels. The day after we arrived, we discovered that there was no housekeeping, unless requested. (There was nothing posted at the desk or in the room). We asked that housekeeping come the next morning. Next Day, after a day of touring, we came back to find that the room had not been cleaned. We asked at the desk again and were informed that you have to ask the morning before, for this service. Third day came and nothing. This time we complained, so Monday they just came in to give us clean towels and pick up the dirty ones, which we piled on the floor. No cleaning was done at all.On Monday night, we were disgusted with the lack of attention they give their guests. Tuesday morning, our last day there, we made one final attempt and really got angry with the desk clerk. When we got back Tuesday night, the room hadn't been touched. The communication between the desk and housekeeping was awful! The desk clerks just didn't care. The other problems we noticed were stained sheets, room phone that didn't work, and a toilet that flushed so strongly that it splashed the water into your face and on the floor when you used it. After that, we made sure to close the lid before flushing. The room had a terrible view, as you can see in my photo. Also,every time we left the building there were smells of garbage and fish that filled the air because an open air market was two doors down. The location is the only positive thing I can mention. It was a 10 minute walk to all the historical sites. Reading Market Terminal, an indoor food court/market, was a 5 minute walk. There was a hop-on-hop-off bus-stop, that stopped at all the major sites , just a block away. We took the Amtrak train from the airport to Jefferson Station which was right across the street from Reading Market, which saved us money on taxi-fare.

I just checked into the hotel after a long ordeal. We booked the Sleep Inn Philadelphia City Center for this evening, May 24th. We booked a King size bed. When we arrived to our room, the bed was smaller than a Queen, definitely not a King we booked. I thought it would be an easy fix as my reservation was for a King and I showed the front desk agent. The agent called her manager who said we couldn't make the switch. I called Choice hotels who wanted to talk to the agent, but she insisted they call her manager. Choice tried to call the agents manager, but she never answered. We were left with the same room after an hour on the phone with Choice. The hotel is basic, definitely not worth the 30k points or over $200 it was going for. They nickel and dime you. For example, if you lose a key card it’s $5 each. $35 for an hour past checkout of 11. I am a Platinum member and definitely no benefits of staying here, except the location.

Ok, now keep in mind you get what you pay for and this property was the least expensive of the bunch which is why the company booked it. The negatives: Property is ridiculously hard to find with no signage. Parking lot next door was fair priced but cramped and outdoors. Street noise was significant and walls so thin I could hear the neighbors fight word for word. ********* and cigarette smoke from room down the hall of this non-smoking property was prevalent in the hallway. Water pressure virtually non-existent in shower. $3.10 for bottled water from vending. The positives: Check-in, once you find the place, was quick and friendly. Overall property inside was quite clean and well-kept. Room was good sized for single stay and also well cleaned. Bed and pillows were comfy and climate control system was nice and quiet with both heat and a/c. Overall a fair return for the price, you get what you pay for, at this off the beaten path location in Philly's Chinatown.

This is by far, hands down, the best Choice Hotels property I’ve ever stepped foot in. The staff was friendly, the rooms were large, and everything was very clean. Weekend breakfast was good and the breakfast attendant was friendly and chatty! The location was perfect, just a couple blocks from Reading Terminal Market. There’s plenty of great Chinese restaurants surrounding the property. I highly recommend this property and we’ll definitely be back! Thanks for a great stay!

This is probably fine for a one night stay but if you need to stay longer look into the AirBnB's in the area. Cheaper, cleaner, quieter and the food is nothing to book a stay here for. The staff is very pleasant but there were numerous issues with my stay. The safe didn't work and I ask to have that fixed right after I checked in but that never happened. The coffee maker dripped hot water right where you would reach for the cup (if you are right handed) and it burned me so I dropped the cup of coffee everywhere. I am sure I am not the first person to do that and can only image what that carpet is like in that area. The breakfast is a bit of a joke. For 2 days there was no coffee, then OJ was out for 2 days and when replaced it was a frozen jug so no OJ that day either. The hot food came and went and they ran out of yogurt early in the week and never went to the store to get more. We did have watermelon one day which was a nice surprise. If you stay in the front rooms you look directly into the apartments across the street so had to keep the curtains closed. If you stay in the back I guess you look at the alley. The area this is in is busy and noisy and the sidewalks are nasty with water and pee all over. The rooms are noisy and I could hear the person next door snoring and anytime people where in the hall. Funny they call this the "Sleep Inn" cuz you won't get any good sleep here. What is with the lack of water here? If you want drinking water you have to buy it from the vending machine. (Tip, go to the store on the corner and buy a case for $6, even if you don't need it all it is a better deal than the vending machine) Water is necessary and there is none to be found, even in the breakfast area. I did like the tall shower head but be careful as the water is extremely hot and comes very quick. Same with the sink, it will burn you if you aren't careful. I mean, hot water is great but this is unsafe. Pretty sure the bed is not a queen size as it felt small. My remote control didn't have a cover over the batteries so they are exposed. This was a minor issue but just let's you know how things are (not) taken care of here.

Made my reservation in January for June 25th. FOUR MONTHS LATER, without warning, they CANCEL, only nine days before I needed to be in Philly. No apology and when they said they'd connect me to the manager to explain they lied and never did. I was able to find alternative lodging for another $75 without any assistant from them and they told me to talk to expedia.com for a refund rather than helping me handle, dumping the logistics inconvenience as well as the cost on me. Low end hotel with low end management. Move on...
