TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! Here's why I can't recommend the Holiday Inn Express in Novi. After check-in we couldn't get back in from the back lot with our arms full of baggage. We had to wait until someone was exiting to sneak in. Then we couldn't get into our 2nd floor room, so trekked back down to reception for key card reprogramming which, we were told, was our fault because key cards are sensitive and should be treated as such. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! We stayed here so we wouldn't have to drive home from a wedding. It's nice they have shuttle service, but it's not nice to plan on using it just to be told that it and the other shuttles are full. Members of our party scrambled for Ubers. Some had to drive after all, which defeated our purpose of both staying the night AND taking a shuttle. When we asked front desk what we should have done differently, the girl explained that they outsourced their shuttles, which still didn't answer our stranded-a** question. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! At least after breakfast we could count on a swim and hot tub. After several failed attempts, again, it seemed, we had broken our sensitive keycards to get in the pool, so my wife took it for reprogramming to learn that the keycards were fine but the pool was not. It was closed to be sanitized. Standing in the lobby in our swimsuits, we learned that it gets a lot of use prior to Sunday mornings. When asked if it made sense to put up a "Closed" sign, reception told us that's why they lock the door. This loops us back nicely to the start of my review. Online checkout is convenient, and conveniently eliminates an opportunity for a manager to ask about our stay; we certainly struck out with the front desk and with our experience at the Novi Holiday Inn Express. I'm inspired to write about two reviews a year. Almost all are positive. Based on our experience, I wouldn't recommend trying your luck at this hotel until they get a few more things in line.
