I've been a Hilton Honors member for almost 20 years, 5 of which I held Diamond status. Hampton Inns have always been my preferred property of choice due to value and consistently high standards. We stayed at the Murphy Hampton Inn on Saturday, 9/2. We got in after 8pm after a long day of travel. Our initial impression of the property was the welcome mat which was dirty and stained, with the interior mat in similar condition. A smell of mustiness and cigarettes filled the air. The young man at the service desk, while friendly, was dressed in a t-shirt, making us wonder if he even worked there or was just filling in. The only reason we met him was that we were directed to because the electronic key system wasn't working. He explained that they have been having unexplained problems with the system. We got to room 119 and first impressions continued. The carpet had clearly not been vacuumed any time recently or with thoroughness. In the bathroom, the toilet paper holder was missing (with a used roll sitting on the shelf), there were stains on the front of the sink cabinet, the wallpaper was peeling, and the exhaust fan didn't work. There were lots of scuff marks on the interior walls. The towels were old and worn, one of them was grey. Worst of all, however, was the air conditioning unit, which rattled and interrupted our sleep all night long. I want to compliment the breakfast hostess, who was friendly, professionally dressed, and kept up the dining area nicely that Sunday. morning. But we were shocked to look over at the front desk staff to see everyone dressed in wrinkly t-shirts, and some looking as if they had just rolled out of bed. I have never seen a less professional looking staff at ANY hotel I've ever stayed at before. I have attached some photos of the welcome mat, the dirty carpet, and the missing toilet paper holder and stained cabinet.
