Las Terrazas de Dana Boutique Lodge & Spa

We stayed at the lodge for seven days to bird around Mindo. We were happy with the communication between the lodge and us from pre-sale, quotation, confirmation, arrival, and pick-up. This made us feel safe and comfortable on our first trip to Ecuador. Since I was born and stayed at low altitude land, I have had altitude sickness over 2500m. Yes, I had altitude sickness at Quito. Although the altitude of Mindo is relatively low, the birding conversation site may be around 3500m. I had asked David for help before we flew to Ecuador. On the first day of the birding trip, our driver, Alferdo, brought up a portable oxygen cylinder in the drawer and told me that in case I felt altitude sickness. David said he had been looking for this for a while, thanked me for my inquiry, and thought someone might need this further. David asked us to meet the briding guide, Natalia before the trip commenced, and we arrived at the Lodge. We feel and know the lodge cares about every detail during our stay and the birding trip. Although we don't know Spanish, the team communicates well in English. The room is very well decorated and equipped. The food never upset you, from stay-in breakfast to take-way breakfast and lunch to teatime and dinner. We can stay in the dining area and the lodge the whole day just watching birds and enjoying the landscape and skyline. We would like to express our deep appreciation to the team: David (the owner), Marco (the Manager), Angel, Josselyn, the Chef Team, Albreto (our driver), and Natalia (the birding guide). If anyone asked me on the trip to Mindo, Ecuador, whether I would relax or go birding, I would highly recommend the Las Terrazas de Dana Boutique Lodge Spa without hesitation.

Extremely welcoming and obliging. Went the extra mile to provide lovely vegan food. David was a fantastic guide/driver - nothing was too much trouble. Trip to the bird hide was particularly memorable as was his skill in finding toucans and other birds for us to see. Room 8 had an amazing view to wake up to, or to sit out on the balcony and watch & listen. Loved the hotel dogs Dana and Kira.

Incredible place. We came here after a Galapagos tour and were immediately made welcome by Marco and his fantastic team. Beautiful location, super peaceful, unbelievable numbers of birds fluttering around. The place is perfect. Food was wonderful. Marco was able to recommend and organise every adventure. We were booked for 3 nights and ended up extending our stay. Really a special place. Highly recpmmended

Fantastic! Marco and his staff help create a wonderful experience at this beautiful property . Stay here!! Those with limited mobility should ask for a room/ suite on the lower levels. If you want The View, ask for the top of the hill suites. The room - spacious and comfortable The deck - Room 10, at the top of the property, had a view for miles. Beautiful lush cloud forest plus good bird watching with patience and binoculars. Favorite moment - watching a rufous hummingbird bathe in the water accumulated (from the dew) in the banana leaf from our deck. Eye level to the tree tops! The restaurant - loved breakfast, which one orders a la carte. Dinner was also good. No need to go out. The staff - all of them were so nice. Shout out to Marco, who makes it all work with David behind the scenes. And a shout out to Joselin who worked in the restaurant and reception area. The Spa - Marco was serious when he said he had the best masseuse in town. She was so good that I signed up my husband to be next. Bird watching - really good. And we had a lovely morning with a professional guide that the hotel arranged. Marco also suggested we go to the Hummingbird garden (Punto Ornitologica) Other attractions - 3 chocolate factories; butterfly gardens (2); orchid garden; gondola; hikes to waterfalls.

Can I just start by saying WOW! Not only is this a beautiful hotel with excellent rooms, great location, peaceful, quiet and a breakfast fit for a king but it is owned, managed and served by quite possibly some of the nicest people I have ever met. We arrived in rain (of course we’re English we take it everywhere!) and were met with staff waiting with umbrellas who promptly got us out the rain, got our cases in the dry and gave us the most lovely welcome. Marco checked us in very quickly and was our go to for basically everything! He helped us organise trips, taxis, gave directions and nothing was too much trouble. After a day spent taking in the beautiful forests of Mindo and the wonderful people in the town we came back to what felt more like home than a hotel as every time was such a warm welcome, it was like returning to family. Everyone wanted to know about our day, what we’d seen and where we went. The food here is delicious make sure you taste the whole breakfast menu, and the gin and tonics were exceptional I must say!! Overall this is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in and if I could award it more than 5 stars I would. A must if you are staying in Mindo, we hope to return soon. I had joined the 5 days all-inclusive bird photographing tour provided by the lodge. The room was decent and quiet and most importantly the staffs were very helpful and friendly. The food provided in the restaurant was very good and the service was excellent. The hotel was well managed by David the hotel owner, who was very helpful and had followed up closely with us on the services of the hotel, the bird guide etc. Marcelo was my bird guide. He was very experieced, helpful and considerated. We had teken many good bird photos. I would strongly recommend this lodge.
