Was ok not bad

Review 1200. This hotel is 5 and zero stars in one: it’s like two different places in one. One could validly choose either rating or anywhere in between. We spent 4 nights on half board. Our room was excellent; comfy bed, great size, big TV, coffee and tea facilities close to 5 star for the money paid. The zone 2 WiFi is truly awful (our lower floor room was quite a way from reception) and the only lift seems never to work. Zone 1 by reception is better. If WiFi is important to you here’s not the place to be though the reception area might be adequate. If you genuinely need a lift/elevator go elsewhere. Senior management here just don’t care enough or maybe have no authority to act quickly to do anything. It can’t be cost - related as they are building more chalet style rooms on the huge grounds so they’ve money to spend but not for timely maintenance. No just - in - time or Kaizen found here. They have really huge business from coach tours with at least four coach loads - hundreds of people of mostly well over 70 year olds when we stayed - very elderly folks on walking frames, some younger in their mid 40’s debilitated, many with mobility aids, wheelchairs etc. Staff will take cases to rooms. We watched folks barely able to stand, really struggling up/down stairs, then walking relatively long distances to reach their lower floor rooms. These elderly folks sure are stoic - that generation are - but this is appalling cruelty on them. Our evening meals were all at least good quality with some really excellent, close to 5 star, for the money paid. I had one of the best Thai beef salads I’ve ever eaten (I told the manager who said the Indian chef will be delighted) the fish mains served are all delicious - cod, salmon, sea bass, well they sure can cook so they can’t be on breakfast duty - breakfast is truly awful. It’s like being in two different establishments as the breakfast food is not for the discerning; it is grim, the coffee is rancid sour again if quality is important do not go here. If Egon Ronay was still alive he’d probably think he was in pre world war 2 Britain. There’s no fish selection at breakfast with the Atlantic Ocean half a mile away. Clew bay is nearby and local supermarkets are full of great fish. The plastic - skinned pork sausages, bacon, black and white pudding are all cheap rubbish (likewise the cold meat selection of one item only (water and chemically made ham)) was the worst quality money can buy. Like their fried eggs, all cooked breakfast food was over - cooked to near oblivion. Mushrooms are from a tin in this green and pleasant land. The hotel has extensive gardens to grow their own including herbs, apples, rhubarb but they don’t bother. My over easy egg was solid. It was throwable and inedible. Vegetable oil croissants taste poor. The brown bread is very good tasting as it the butter. Their breakfast food waste must be huge. It’s a pity as the cooking skills sure are there. They offer a vegan

We stayed for 3 nights and we cannot recommend this hotel enough. All of the staff were excellent. There was a problem with my brother in laws wheelchair accessible room and it was sorted straight away. Our family room was very spacious with gorgeous fluffy towels in the bathroom. The food in the bar and restaurant was delicious. Great choice for breakfast although food titles beside each food would be helpful. Alison in the restaurant looked after our every need when we had dinner there. The housekeeping staff were always very courteous. My wheelchair user brother in law would like to especially compliment the staff member who brought down his suitcase to reception upon check out, without being asked. We will definitely return.

This hotel was great for our family trip this summer. Kay and her team were so welcoming and friendly right throughout our stay. Mollie and Mèabh keep asking when they can go to see Kay again. Highly recommended 👌 westport house is just beside it also and is fab for activities and adventure for the kids.

Avoid at all costs. Went away with friends for a relaxing week, and it was a disaster. The bar was closed each night at 9.30pm and that finished our enjoyment completely. We all agreed that we would never go back and to let others know of our experience. The only hotel in Ireland to close the bar early.

We were returning for another country music week and unfortunately poor service in the bars, especially the downstairs bar put a damper on the week ..Beer taps did not seem to be working properly and apart from the young barman with the ponytail, who was really brilliant, it would have been a complete mess The stocky young barmaid was useless slipping away to hide at busy times

We had an incredibly good experience in the Westport Woods Hotel last weekend. The food was excellent and plentiful. We went Horse riding and even the hotel owner Michael drove us out to the stables. The pool and Spa were superb. Staff were extremely attentive and friendly. We are already looking to returning for another stay ASAP!

Westport Woods was excellent as usual . We visit Westport regularly as we have family members living there, and over the last few years we have stayed in many hotels in Westport but this s our favorite .. . We had an executive suite and it was fab . As usual staff were very friendly and welcoming , We willbe back breakfast sat was lovely , and lovely areas to relax in including the pool

Stayed here for 3 nights. What a diaster. 8 couples not provided with rooms as requested. Staff not very helpful. Management said it was impossible to accommodate the 8 couples with rooms with walk-in shower as hotel was full. Large group leaving next morning and rooms would be available, but we would have to stay in the rooms allocated for 1 night. Not at all convenient. Large room, no charge point for phones, no toilet roll holder and no towel holder. Bed comfortable. Moved next morning. Some staff on duty at reception need to go to smile college. Again not as helpful as they could have been. 2nd room large n spacious. Would you believe there were 6 charging points for phones but still no towel or toilet roll holder. Where did you get 4 * from as not up to that standard. Bar staff run off there feet as there was only one on duty, brandy served in small glass, not a goblet, that’s not up to 4* . Goblets were sitting next to optics. Maybe bar staff should go back to school to find out what glass is for what drink. Food good n restaurant staff pleasant, especially Anna, who wasn’t on duty when we left although we had spoken to supervisor of restaurant to let her know about the service we received from this young lady. Won’t be staying again as the right hand doesn’t know what the left one is doing.
