20. April 2024
We stayed at Mayne Island Resort in October 2022. The experience was mixed, with reception in particular being poor. The setting was, and of course is, excellent. We found out that the resort has been with new owners for the last six weeks (as of mid April 2024), and they intend to make quite a few improvements. This was already working out - the lady in reception was polite, friendly, helpful and, unlike last time, actual there when we arrived to check in. We stayed in the 'economy' room, 201, which is above the restaurant area. There was a little from noise from the restaurant while it was open, but this had stopped by our (early) bedtime. This time around, we didn't use the restaurant. We were initially put off the swimming pool by the odd color of the water, but this turned out to be due to it being rainwater, which had some pollen in it. We were assured that it was perfectly clean. We did use the hot tub and steam room, both were in good condition. The room was clean, small but not too small, with limited storage but otherwise well provisioned, including kettle, coffee machine, and a fridge pre stocked with bottled water and two tasty muffins. It was described as 'partial' see view, but if it had said full see view I wouldn't have disagreed. This room is slated to be the first to undergo reservations, so much of the above will soon be irrelevant. Outside, the grounds are pleasant, with access to the beach and from there, some trails. Oddly, when coming off the beach, there's a sign saying that only people staying in the suites should proceed - that needs to be changed to 'resort guests', as elsewhere. One further change is that the resort no longer requires a two night minimum stay. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable, it it sounds as if things may get better!
