"Radha's Cottage is a lovely retreat, very well located at the end of the road in Matheran. It's a simple place, furnished largely with period furniture. The food is outstanding - the best I've had in 6 weeks of traveling in India. For those who are unfamiliar with Matheran as I was, a couple pieces of information: - The "toy train" runs very infrequently. Be sure to get a schedule if you plan to take it from the parking. - It's a 4.5km walk from the train station near the parking to Radha's. Don't believe the stationmaster if he tells you it's a 20 minute walk, it's an hour's walk. - It's still another 1.5km from the train station in the village to Radha's. If you've got a bag it's probably a good idea to get some help from a porter. - Sometimes the electricity goes out. When we stayed, these outages were brief, just a minute or 2. - Sometimes the water in the bathroom is dark brown. This surprised us one morning. It's dirt, and cleared during the course of the day."

"Nach den Fotos und den Beschreibungen auf der Website hatten wir eine aussergewöhnliche Unterkunft erwartet , zumal 100 Euro pro Nacht kein Schnäppchen ist. Zuwegung vom Hauptweg miserabel, für gehbehinderte nicht machbar Weg zum Gartenzimmer ebenfalls nicht gemacht und unbeleuchtet Das Haus liegt schön im Wald. Das Mobiliar und die hölzerne Veranda aus englischen Zeiten sind morsch , gehen auseinander und sind mini Blech winkeln zusammen geschraubt Wir waren weihnachten dort : es gibt keine alkoholischen Getränke Office personal wenig entgegenkommend Frühstück ist ok Warmes Essen mäßig Achtung : keine Karten Zahlung möglich, wurde nicht kommuniziert Zimmer dunkel und muffig. Mobiliar ist reif für den Sperrmüll. Kaum Steckdosen, kalte Dusche , viel zu wenig Licht. Kalte Dusche Das alles ist für mich grundsätzlich kein Problem, aber nicht für den Preis und bei der Präsentation"

"The Byke Heritage at Matheran is situated nearly at the end of the main M.G. Road. It is recognized as the largest hotel property in Matheran and features the oldest bungalow in the area, constructed by Matheran's founder, Mr. Hugh Malet. The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from Matheran station, so I recommend hiring a porter or coolie to assist with your luggage. Additionally, it is advised to buy any necessary groceries from the market itself, as there are not many shops close to the hotel. Guests should note that the hotel is situated on a hilly slope and involves walking many steps; therefore, it may not be suitable for senior citizens or those with difficulty walking on slopes. While the property holds a rich heritage, the rooms are old and the quality of food served in the restaurant is average or below average. Mobile network is poor here but a good Wifi connection is provided. I feel there is plenty of scope for improvement, specifically regarding the quality of rooms and the dining experience. Despite its history, no one at the hotel provided a brief historical background during our stay. The highlight for families is the variety of amenities for children, including badminton, cricket, indoor games, and an adventure park for older kids, alongside outdoor play equipment for younger ones. The hotel also hosts engaging activities such as: * Rain dance * A swimming pool for adults and another for children with water slides * A disco * Karaoke nights with Gauri, who was a wonderful entertainer and a highlight of our trip. The overall experience at the hotel is quite average, but the extensive activities keep children busy. When you consider their pricing, the experience feels much better; it provides excellent value for money for the price they charge. If you are traveling in a large group, this is a good option as it provides solid entertainment. However, you can find a better quality experience and much better food at Usha Ascot, which is located directly opposite this hotel. Like any other location in Matheran, this hotel has many monkeys which come with their own set of challenges."
