A week end visit to Mannheim for the New Objectivity = Neue Sachlichkeit exhibition in the Kunsthalle and a Colourage concert in the Rosengarten. The hotel is close to the central railway station. One can easily walk, but if at night it may be better to use the Reichskanzler Mueller Str as the one along the railway line (Heinrich von Stephan Str) did not seem so safe/pleasant - but that is just my sense. I arrived on Friday morning and could store my luggage for free. The lady at the reception was very friendly. Check-in was at 3pm. They told me at check-in that the hotel will not clean the room unless one specifically asks for it. I had asked via email for a quiet room in a corner of the hotel and got one on the 5th floor - far away from the elevator. Upon request my friend who arrived the next day was given the room next door. We both got double beds which was very comfortable. Yes, one could hear the trains on the railway line, but not very loudly. My sleep was not disturbed. The room was cool, but the heating worked quickly. There was a water heater, cups and various tea bags and coffee. One could get more tea bags from downstairs. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean - the shower worked; the bathroom door could not be closed well - it did not bother me - I was on my own. There was a comfortable arm chair with desk in the room. Also a TV. The curtains closed well. There was a safe in the room and an ironing board. Hangers for the jackets; a place for the rest of the luggage. There were spots on the carpet, but that did not bother me. It was overall clean. The breakfast was great - a big variety on a buffet basis. The coffee tasted good. The staff was very friendly. Check out was at noon - so there was ample time. The closest tram station was at Kopernikus Str., just around the corner. Very convenient. Overall a pleasant place at a reasonable rate.
