The Farmhouse

Jake was our waiter and he presented us with the best customer service I have known for a long time. Can't put all of it on here as it would take too long. One point was he found out it was our wedding anniversary so we were presented with a complimentary platter of goodies with "Congratulations" written in icing. Drinks were topped up when needed. Nothing was too much trouble.

We booked this place for 2 nights R&R as it was a marstons and we like marstons pubs in kent, the food, the atmosphere is always good! We arrived early evening after all day traveling and sightseeing, upon check-in the lady at reception was very polite and helpful. We opened the door to our room to see 1 large coffee stain on the carpet and a few more dotted about, surely this should have been cleaned prior to booking the room again?! The bed however was huge! The bathroom well equipped with shower and bath. Coffee machine and tea making facilities. When we came down from our room after freshening up we were confronted by a full rammed bar area, unbeknown to us their was a "wake" party booked in (we are not heartless people and realise this is the closest venue to the crematorium) but a quick email to us advising that there was a large gathering that evening prior to our arrival would have been appreciated, and we would have arrived alot later! We we informed that they would be in the function room but would be also using the bar. We found a table for dinner and sat down, we ordered the burger and a plant burger, Unfortunately the plant burger was bland tasteless and therefore inedible! The chunky chips were slightly undercooked too. The plant burger was removed from the bill. That evening it was difficult to sleep as there were alot of noisy people outside our window until closing time! Maybe make people aware there are others that have paid good money to stay there and to be respectful. We came down to breakfast (not greated initially by anyone with a 'good morning') We saw what may have been a manager on her laptop at the bar, to be told to sit anywhere. We found a table, upon being greated by our server, we were asked if we were staying and asked our room number, after this was given she kindly said out loud (for all to hear) ' now, I see you here as a room only so you will have to pay for breakfast, make sure you settle up before you leave!' Not professional at all and made us feel very uncomfortable! Being that we were there for 2 nights I would have put it on the room and paid at the end! This wasn't the option, like we were just going to walk out? We felt embarrassed and ended up only ordering a coffee and a tea, and no breakfast! The drinks were paid for and we left and went somewhere else for breakfast. The second evening we ate out somewhere else. We checked out on day 3 (didn't entertain breakfast or coffee!) No greetings of good morning (from I guess another manager at the bar on her laptop!) To be told just to leave the key on the bar, not asked how was your stay, goodbye or thanks for staying with us!! Needless to say we won't be back, sorry Marstons not your usual hospitality!

This hotel is an absolute mess, we paid £160 for the night excluding breakfast which was £8.50 extra. We arrived at 7pm on the day after travelling up from Bristol and dumped our kit in the room and went down to get something to eat. Half the menu was off but still managed to eat. When we eventually returned to our room, the sad state started to become apparent. Stained carpets, cracked walls, peeling wallpaper, and a bad state of decoration. We went to bed and in the morning went to reception to complain. After trying to locate a member of staff without success, we left the keys at reception and left. Be warned, the photo on their website is the honeymoon suite, not a standard room.

Booked here for a romantic luxury night away.What we experienced was in all honesty shocking.This place is punching way above it,s weight.It is mediocre at best.The entitre place is over priced & pretentious.We were in "Old Major" The website pics look great & we were overjoyed to get a room at such short notice we soon realised why...The room/corridors etc are in a disgusting state.The place desperately needs a refurb & boy does it show.Peeling wall paper,Cracked/damaged walls/Paintwork.Stained carpets.If you like a Hostel experience but enjoying paying way over the odds like we did ( £160 a night ) this is 100% the place for you.That did not even include the breakfast!.This place is more like some hell hole bedsit with delusions of grandeur !!.Please do not waste your money here & go elsewhere.

Stopped here for lunch, food was ok but a bit expensive for what you get, service was not the best waiting at the bar for staff to finish jobs before we were served. Drinks are very expensive....wine is a rip off. There are other places nicer and more value for money. Also we did not like sharing the bar with a funeral party this place is big enough for someone to take the initiative and give funeral party's their own area.

We stayed at your hotel whilst attending a wedding in Derby. We found the room to be satisfactory but maybe a little tired. On the first evening we enjoyed food and drink with friends in your bar/restaurant. This was very nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful. But, it was at the breakfast I have a real issue !!!! I have NEVER been to a hotel where I was asked to pay for tea and coffee at breakfast !!!! I was truly shocked that our B & B did not include a pot of tea and some coffee granules (since mine is black) for this we had to pay nearly £7...... disgraceful. Needless to say we solved this issue the next morning by bringing our own hot drinks from our room.....how bizarre We also felt that a hotel breakfast should have the offer of buffet for continental and fruit juice or even toast ! So, when asked by the other wedding guests did we have a good hotel, the only topic of conversation was the breakfast....... not a good recommendation... I did point my complaint out to your manager at the hotel. Therefore may I suggest that you review your policy on the inclusive breakfast.

Enticed by the offer of 30% off our main courses, I and my wife decided to have a Sunday lunch at the "Farmhouse," Mackworth. With no one attending the reception desk, we waited rather longer than we would have liked. Eventually somone flashed by yelling "be with you in a minute" over their shoulder. Not a good first impression. (We would suggest that someone is permanently present at reception ready to meet and greet all arrivals - short staffed perhaps?). There was good range of meals on offer at prices that were, in our opinion, at the upper end of what one might consider reasonable. As for drinks - step away from the bar now! A large glass of Shiraz will cost you an eye-watering £10.75 of your "hard earned" cash !! Altogeher, the service was good given the number of customers in attendance. Compare and contrast the fare at this venue (which in many cases bears an uncanny resemblance with that at the "Broadway" pub on the Broadway / A6 corner, Derby and, even with the Farmhouse's 30% discount on main meals, you may find your wallet a bit fatter after visiting "The Broadway."

great experience with the family all 7 of us loved it and thought the waiter Jake was very friendly and cooperative. 10/10 experience. The food was amazing and nothing wrong with it atall and very welcoming when we walked in. Overall had a great time and would recommend.

We spent a really enjoyable afternoon as a group of 6 friends. I ordered from the lunch menu which was very good value, I chose fish goujons with chunky chips and mushy peas - it was a light bite and very tasty! I enjoyed apple and cherry crumble with custard for dessert. Jake our waiter was friendly and attentive. All in all a relaxing afternoon and I can’t wait to come back again.
