This property makes a very good initial impression. The buildings are lovely Hacienda style,with mosaic courtyards and fountains. The landscaping is appealing and there are placards identifying the plants. Check in was easy. However as soon as we got our key , we were told to go to guest services for our “welcome package”. This was where things started to go downhill. We were given a map of the property and shown the restaurants and pools etc. Then we were shown about 5 brochures of different tours and activities that could be arranged for us. It was then that the guest service rep mentioned the “special offer only for Bonvoy members”. That if we just attended a 75 minute presentation we could get up to 50% off of these excursions. When I stated I wasn’t interested in time shares. She replied”the scam people at the airport sell time shares, they have nothing to do with Marriott, we do not sell time shares”. I again stated I was not interested and we just wanted to go to our room. Our bags were loaded into the golf cart. And we followed the bellman to our room. We did notice that there was an empty beer can on the ledge by the elevator. This can stayed there for 2 nights before it was removed. It became a game to bet if it was still there each time we came and went. We got to our room which was “upgraded “ to an ocean view from a garden view. As others have mentioned the rooms are spacious with. nice but dated fixtures. The hot faucet handle on one sink came off leaving just the stem. The other sink was not functioning properly as we got a knocking sound with intermittent water(I notice others have mentioned this as well). When I called and reported the issue I was told “ we will send someone right up”. After two hours, no one came and I called again. Again, I was told “ we will send someone right up”. No one came to investigate or fix it. Additionally, we noticed garbage ( an empty water bottle) on the floor from the prior guest. This was not removed at any time during our 3 night stay. On our first morning, housekeeping knocked on our door at about 8:45am. The next day, they didn’t show up at all and we got a call at noon asking if we wanted our room serviced we said “yes”. They told us it would take an hour. The night before we were to check out ,I was reviewing my stay in the Bonvoy app and noticed they charged $60 USD as an “extra guest” fee for my 12 year old. This wasn’t mentioned at check in, or on the website when we made the reservation. Marriott has a kids stay free policy when using existing bedding and this seemed incongruent with our previous experiences. The staff is kind and many seem Helpful, however It just falls short and concerns are not addressed.
