Holiday Inn Express East Midlands Airport

Booked this stop-over with trip.com on Christmas day. Just awful from the start! Although I had paid for the booking online, on arrival, I was told that it was just a reservation and that I needed to confirm payment with my credit card again, which I did. I was charged again. I requested a refund the following morning. I was then told that I needed to pay another £10 for parking for the night - nearly 25% extra on the total cost of the room. There was no mention of this parking extra on the Trip.com website when I booked. The first two rooms that I was allocated had sofa beds made up so you couldn't sit at the desk or get to the window to shut the curtains. This could not be fixed as there were no room service staff. The third room had 2 light bulbs that didn't work and cobwebs on the ceiling - I was tired, I took the room. I was only offered food from the limited night menu - it was 6pm - there were no kitchen staff. Having to sort out the problems that I experienced put the two staff members under extreme pressure - I was not the only guest. I support the fact that staff had been given time off for Christmas, this is commendable IHG, but you can't do this at the expense of your customer and your brand. I strongly doubt that I will use either Holiday Inn or Trip.com again

This was for the parking. I didn’t stay. It’s a 20 minute walk with no shuttles. On my return around 2am. The taxi company told me I’d have a wait of an hour at least. It was raining - so I had no choice but to walk. The walk as a solo female is daunting. It’s 25 minutes on quiet roads accessed by anyone. So unless the walk isn’t going to bother you. Don’t rely on getting any help to get there via bus or taxi. Won’t use it again and don’t recommend. I’d have paid the extra £20 for closer parking

I don’t usually right reviews but I give credit where credit is due. Upon entering the hotel I was dealt with swiftly and friendly I had no idea about the area as I was down there for a little break. One of the staff members was not only helpful regarding my stay in the hotel but also gave me some ideas and directions to things I can do. I believe her name was Sinead (not sure on spelling) but she was lovely so polite and really welcoming! Such an asset to your team and you should be very pleased to have her as a staff member. Thank you Sinead!

Really pleased with my choice of hotel. I was looking for a value overnight stay as I was at a motorcycle trackday the next day at Donington Park (10 mins away). Checking in was easy, the room was immaculate, powerful shower, bed was extremely comfy, tea and coffee provided. Had a few drinks in the bar at usual hotel prices. Didn't have any evening snacks, but the food looked reasonable. I chose this hotel as I wanted a proper breakfast for an adrenaline packed day ahead and I wasn't disappointed. Breakfast was available from 4am on a bank holiday Monday which was more than early enough. The cooked breakfast was well presented, was fresh and tasted great. Many of the similar hotels that I considered offered a breakfast box or no breakfast, so if you want a decent start to your day, this is the hotel for you. As other customers have said, there is a £10 parking charge; however, I believe that this is outside of the hotel's control. On balance, compared to the other hotels I checked, I considered this reasonable when compared to the competition.

The good was that the accessible room was well equipped and everywhere very clean. Some staff were very friendly, some gave the attitude of not wanting to work there. The bad part was the food - I had a very small curry with a naan which had been microwaved to take on the texture of rubber and no other accompaniments, my wife had an equally small pasta dish which was so 'al dente' that she could not eat it. We were too tired after travelling all day to complain and no-one asked if the meal was satisfactory. The bar prices were also scandalous with a 0% Guinness costing £ 9.50 ! Next time Premier Inn !

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for about 3 weeks due to our house being fire damaged. We had several opportunities to move elsewhere, but we didn't want to. The hotel was immaculate, fresh flowers everyday, unlimited breakfast and the staff, without exception, were delightful - couldn't do enough for us. We had slight problems with the diabolical car parking company, but the staff sorted it out.

Young guy on the desk checking in was excellent . Knew my preference away from lift, super friendly and invested in what he was doing . Room was better than travel lodge and on par with premier inn with slightly better bathroom. Shame , no fridges for people staying for business. Breakfast adequate , not too busy, but ran out of plates , and a few other bits , need more frequent resupply . Very good experience overall

On arrival was allocated an accessible room which had an interconnecting door, it was so noisy I asked for a different room and was given one on the first floor, this was better but the insulation quality to stop noise isn't great here. The bed was very hard and not comfortable but the room was clean and tidy, TV remote didn't work and they didn't program my door key to work for 2nd night which was a pain. Did not eat dinner here as zero atmosphere in the bar area instead opted to dine at premier inn next door, much better and would stay there next time. Probably the most bland HIE I've stayed in after using many others, wouldn't choose this hotel again.

Great stay! We stayed the night before our flight and was very pleased with the hotel. The check in staff were very helpful and friendly as were the bar and food staff. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and a really nice bed, and despite being so close to the airport the noise was minimal. The buffet breakfast was standard but enjoyable and was well stocked. If there was any negatives i could say it was the drink prices, I thought they were rather high but it is an airport hotel so to be expected. I would recommend the hotel.
