Location is 5 stars. The only chain hotel in historical downtown Lexington, near shops and restaurants, part of hotel is a historical plantation home and you're surrounded by the mansion grounds including gorgeous old trees. Room is 3 stars (note, this was the cheapest room category). I live less than two hours from Lexington, VA and have kept an eye on the rates as I like Lexington and I've wanted to spend the night - they are usually more than I want to pay. I expected the rooms to be nicer for those prices. I had a king with exterior door, motel style. It was fine, but a bit dated and dark. I was expecting some period furnishings or decorations and my room didn't have them. (Note: Most of the rooms are in two motel style newer (1970s?) buildings next to the mansion, but there are also several rooms in the mansion that are historically decorated and pricier). There was mold on the ceiling of the bathroom and the it was not possible to make the shower colder. (The water was nice and hot, but if you try to make it cooler is shut off). It was great for what I paid, $115 at Hilton Honors special rate), but I've seen the room priced in the $200 - $300 range, and I would have been a bit disappointed if I paid that. Everything was in good condition, and the fridge is larger than the usual small fridge. Area is safe, so exterior door was fine I went on a Sunday night, note that a lot of restaurants are closed Sunday night and many shops are closed on Monday, which was part of the reason for the steep discount, plus it's a college town with two colleges, so this tends to be a quiet time there. Breakfast is in the mansion and there are a few tables on the veranda, all filled when I was there.
