Heidi's Grasmere Lodge

I will say that I did not book my stay at Heidi’s and would not choose a zero welcome accomodation like this myself, my walk company did the booking. This is my experience: I was walking the coast to coast path and on the day I arrived in Grasmere it had been raining heavily though had stopped by the time I reached Heidi’s, all clad in scaffolding. I found the door with its keypad and then had to grapple through my wet rucksack to find the six digit keycode. This worked and I entered to be greeted by a scrap of paper in a wooden stand which invited me to search for my door key in a drawer. This drawer was in the same room I was now in. The room also had doors to the cafe, the toilet, the laundry and the stairs up to the rooms. I missed the sign inviting me to take off my boots because two ornaments had been placed in front of it. I spotted it later though the array of footwear could have given me a clue. I hiked upstairs and found my room, Room 4. My luggage didn’t arrive till 90 minutes later so I wandered around the town before returning to freshen up. The room was spacious with a double bed, clean and tidy. It also had two low beams down the length of the room with sharp edges which I was to bump my head on several times during my one night stay. The ensuite is huge with a bath as well as a seperate shower. Though if you wished to have a bath being low in stature would be a help as the ceiling sloped across the bath so anyone of my height (6’) would have fun and games. During my wait for the luggage a lady staff member (I do not know her name) advised me that the transfer company had been very late at the time. So next morning breakfast was in the adjoining cafe. The choice was poor, a selection of mini cereal packets, fruit juice and maybe some yoghurts. I ordered some mint tea and egg, bacon and tomato. The mint tea was great, served in a sort of cafetierre and tasted great. The cooked breakfast was another matter. The bacon was the toughest I have ever encountered in my life, I could not cut through it at all, it was a serious chew. The tomato was cooked whole, so I supect that the tomato and the bacon had been in a deepfat fryer. In short this was by far the worst breakfast I encountered on my week of walking. In fact I could not wait to get out of the place it was awful. Gem, it is not!

We have tried every cafe in Grassmere but Heidi's excelled them all. Emma Craig and staff were so very friendly. Delicious breakfast with great choice to pick from but we've got to say the cafe is second to none for the centre of grassmere if I could give 6 stars I would. we would recommend Heidi's to anyone

Historic B&B in the middle of Grasmere. I had almost a suite with a large room and attached big bathroom. Very comfortable and quiet in the evening. Beware the steep and tight stairs, not unusual for a building with this history. Breakfast in the cafe was typical filling Lakeland breakfast. All round good experience.

Had a lovely 2 night stay while my other half did the Swim Run Coniston which finished just next door, so the location was perfect. The room (no.3) was small but perfect for our stay. Lovely and clean with comfy bed and quality bedding. Only negative was we did keep knocking our legs when walking past the edge of the bed but it get was such a minor thing. Parking is charged but there are other places in Grasmere if you look around but for convenience we paid to park at the rear of the property. Breakfast is served in the property’s cafe. Good choice and lovely quality. Illy coffee and tea leaf breakfast tea were great! The staff are really pleasant and Craig is definitely the HEART of the place. Grasmere is lovely and Heidi’s is perfectly located with pubs and eateries close by…. We will definitely be back!

Lovely little B&B. Rooms cosy and well-appointed, great shower. Centrally located but not noisy. Mattress was a bit soft for my liking but a minor point. Great breakfast, great pub next door for dinner. Would definitely stay again. Easy check-in.

Just back from an excellent stay here at Heidi’s.. superb breakfast, very friendly staff (Craig is a huge asset to the place), lovely rooms and spotless.. great view from our loft room too which had a welcome Juliette balcony.. it’s in the heart of the village but doesn’t have a bespoke car park but we parked a little down the road..

Well once again not disappointed with our 3rd weekend stay at Heidi's, we won't stay anywhere else when visiting Grasmere now. What can I say other than great clean rooms amazing staff and fab location. We had room 6 again with the most amazing views.

We stayed at Heidi’s for two nights while exploring the Lake District. We loved our beautiful room, the delicious breakfast and the attention to detail. Everything was perfect and we really felt at home. We fell in love with the area and will definitely be back!

Centrally located in Grasmere, this would make an excellent base for exploring this part of the Lake District. The Gingerbread shop is close by, Sam Read's bookshop, and also Wordsworth's Garden. My room had a bath - which is always welcome when relaxing after a long walk
