First off, the Grand Tent is not explained clearly on their website but is amazing. It features 3 larger rooms: 1) a king bed in a master bedroom with dual indoor and outdoor showers, a tub, and dual sinks. This room is spectacular. 2) Down a flight of stairs accessible from the outside is another large room set up with two large beds, a sizable rollup bed, and another full shower and bathroom. 3) The main house/entrance area includes another bathroom, a shower, and a closet. This area also has a kitchen with the basics you’d expect from an Airbnb—pans, pots, etc.—plus a couch, TV, and large table. Outside, there’s not just a plunge pool but a large hot spring and a fire pit area with plenty of seating. The outdoor space has four lounge chairs and two tables, providing plenty of room for 10 people to comfortably chill! In short, our family of five loved the Grand Tent. From our understanding, there are only two Grand Tents, and if you get the family tent, it’s essentially the Grand Tent plus another tent, expanding it from two bedrooms to three or four (not sure). The Grand Tent is perfect for a family of five and gave us everything we needed! The resort, Nayara, consists of three connected resorts forming one expansive area. The grounds are breathtaking, truly placing you in a rainforest. The service is impeccable, scoring 10/10. Considering the challenges of being in a rainforest, the level of service, labor, and resources available is impressive. The tented camp feels the newest and thus the most premium. It’s no shock that this is the #1 resort in Central America three years running… The food and beverages are overall very good, albeit slightly overpriced for well-traveled individuals, with entrées costing $30-40 and mixed drinks around $20. However, considering the remote location, the culinary achievements are remarkable. The fine dining experience was our best meal—service was a 10, and food was a solid 8. Achieving higher would need a Michelin star / James Beard Award-winning chef. We paid $700 total for wine pairings and a seven-course meal. The vibe was great with live music and outstanding service. You can also get into town in 5 minutes with plenty of food choices across a variety of budgets. OTHER THINGS TO KNOW: -We rented car in San Jose and did the drive, was same price as car service to pick us up and bring us back both ways, plus gave us the freedom to drive around town, see other areas in town without having to wait for taxi etc. -Flying into SJO, although it’s only 50 miles away, it will take about 2.5 hours to reach the resort. If you land at night, consider staying in San Jose and leaving in the morning. The road is winding and changes elevation frequently, making it easy to get car sick. -It also rains every day during the wet season, but the rain comes and goes mostly in afternoon, which can actually be refreshing after a busy, sweaty day. We enjoyed the rain cooling us off and the experience of being in the
