Lovely night away, great sized room, spotlessly clean. Great location, great breakfast. Couldn’t fault it 😃

Roast we had was very very average. Roasted chicken breast was dry, leeks were bone dry but somehow undercooked, the menu described ‘lashings of gravy’ but there was a solid shot glass amount of gravy. Potatoes were soft but supposed to be roast, the mash was a brick. It was almost impressive how each part was the opposite of what it was claiming to be? Service wise, we saw someone when we sat, and ordered and that was it. We had to come up and ask for sauce, more drinks and the bill. Was also totally dead on a Sunday afternoon.

Popped in for drinks on a Friday afternoon and the place was dead. Lacked atmosphere but maybe it was just bad timing on our part. Drinks were ok and sensibly priced. Good location on main road through Kendal. Sky sports on the television. Didn’t eat so can’t comment on the food

I had a really nice stay here , Micheal and the staff were so helpful the hotel is superbly positioned in the middle of Kendal .. beds were 10/10 and I slept 9 hours solid not done that in afew years of staying away . Would highly recommend the breakfast was so fresh and nice I’ll be bringing my family back next time

We visited on the Saturday evening and had a lovely meal, man behind the bar very welcoming. They check on how the meal was and we were very impressed so said we would return on the Sunday for a roast dinner. Not so welcoming on the Sunday different staff behind the bar, ordered 2 roast beef dinners and it was shocking. The worst Yorkhire pudding ever burnt to a crisp. They never came to check on how the food was. The beef was so tough like it had been reheated on a grill. Overall it was the worst Sunday roast I think I ever had. Such a difference in the Food and service from one day to the next. We left very disappointed and still hungry as it was not edible.

2 of us went in hoping for a half decent meal early Sunday evening (9th June) and we were immediately given a very warm and friendly welcome by the barman who gave us good service throughout and the food we ordered was delicious, a very enjoyable meal, big THANKS

Great place to stay in Kendal. Felt like an authentic pub experience, all staff friendly, cosy bar and authentic feel. Yes the driveway was tight, all part of the adventure! Room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. Quiet and comfortable, good breakfast options provided. Recommend if you’re in Kendal.

After deciding on The Shakespeare Inn for our rugby tours final evening meal,I contacted Lee who could not have been more helpful..We chatted lots over last few months and pre ordered for our 60 odd guests..In hindsight ,60 was maybe too many to expect all meals to come out together..After all its a pub not a restaurant as such..Anyway,there were a few hiccups with some meals taking some time, but when the food arrived ,it was hot, and of fantastic quality..Roast potatoes are best myself and another guest have ever had..Lee also allowed us to pretty much have the run of the place,which created a great atmosphere for us to celebrate..I'm sure plenty was spent over the bar..The girls upfront could not have been nicer,and kindly commented on how our polite our boys were..So yes a bit hectic,and some had to wait a while..Do I regret booking here for us,not at all..Would go back anytime.

Excellent stay at the Shakespeare, room small but efficient enough for two - a bit tight if you've wet clothes though. Room service was great, all laundry changed daily, good coffee & tea and the wee fridge with fresh milk a great touch. Mike the manager and staff in the bar were great for the duration of our stay, good atmosphere whether breakfast or evening. Bar meals were 1st class and a great menu to choose from at decent prices. Would highly recommend a stay here.
