We were visiting Kansas City for a couple of days to attend the Symphony and some of our favorite locations like the Nelson-Adkins Museum, the World War One Museum, and the City Market. Oak Street Mansion is like a B&B, but without the breakfast. It's less than two blocks north of the Nelson Adkins Museum, walking distance and that was a plus. The house is well-maintained and features four rooms on the second floor, two or three on the third, and a carriage house. If you want to escape the bustle and crowds of a corporate hotel, this is an ideal solution. Our room (The Volker) featured a king sleigh bed, balcony, refrigerator (so bring or pick-up stuff for breakfast), a Keurig coffee maker, and a great shower. The air-conditioning was excellent, which we were thankful for given the hot weather. The management will send you your access code the morning of your arrival. We stayed two nights and not once saw a single employee, just a few of the other guests. There are three public spaces for sitting and relaxing on the main floor, plus an art gallery. Restaurants, Country Club Plaza, and the World War One Museum are nearby. We would choose to stay here again if rooms are available.
