My Mom and I both LOVED this place! We stayed at three different hotels during our two weeks on Kauai and Hawaii, and this one by far was our favorite. I made a list of pros and cons for each hotel, and honestly, it was difficult to find the cons at Hanalei Bay Resort. Nevertheless, here is a rundown of our experience: We were early to check in, so we left to do some exploring and grocery shopping. When we got back, the room still wasn't quite ready (no big deal, it still wasn't even 4:00pm yet) but the ladies at the front desk offered to take our cold groceries and keep them in their fridge for us! We then strolled over to Happy Talk to have a drink and they called us to let us know the room was ready shortly after. The room was clean, large, comfortable, and had every comfort of home. The towels were SO soft!! The shampoo and conditioner was great. No room cleaning unless you stay six days or more, but that was not a big deal and you can just put your trash out the front door within a certain timeframe twice a day for pickup. We visited the Happy Talk Lounge a few times and loved it. Both food and drinks were delicious, and the views are nearly impossible to beat. The shuttle to the beach was appreciated, because wow, what a steep hike! But the beach was stunning with wonderful, enormous shade trees to sit under. The staff were all wonderful and friendly and the grounds are immaculately clean. Gorgeous views everywhere you turn. I fell in love with the pool! Way better than Hilton Waikoloa or Royal Sonesta. I know some people have said it was too cold, I thought it was perfect. Mornings were so peaceful, with a light, mist-like rain, families of chickens and Nene geese visitors, and vibrant rainbows. So, my con list is very, very short. 1. The coffee in the room wasn't great. They said it could make a pot (several cups), but we made it with enough water for just one cup and it was still a little weak. 2. Oddly enough, there were no scissors in the room, but everything else under the sun! 3. The hours are a little bit funky with Happy Talk not opening until 3pm. I know this is condo-style, and you mostly just get your own stuff, but it would have been nice to get a fancy drink by the pool! 4. Lastly, there is no way to lock your sliding glass door (or screen door) from the outside if you are on the ground floor. It wasn't a big deal, as I felt we were in a safe area, but still... Honestly, if you want absolutely stunning views, rainbows every morning, wonderful peace and quiet, and Nene and baby chickens visiting you daily, check this place out. You won't regret it. P.S. I would love to have seen the swim up pool bar in it's day! So sad it wasn't up and running....
