Ambassador Hotel Kansas City, Autograph Collection

Let me start by saying this was an absolutely excellent experience!! One of the BEST I’ve had in a long time and I stayed at 3 different Marriott properties just in the past week, so I travel way too much!! Checking in was spot on perfect… Friendly, helpful, explained everything about the property I needed to know, acknowledged my status and offered my perks, etc… It was great! The room was excellent! A nice, quiet HVAC system that provided great temperature in the room my entire stay! The housekeeping provided daily was excellent too, and I pay attention to the little details – They hit them all! The TV in the room was great as it offered nice, interesting channels and so much selection!! Water pressure and drain in the shower was perfect. Bed comfort was perfect. I used the hotel’s restaurant for breakfast and dinner several times during the stay and that was amazing! The only issue was self-parking – The lot is very small and tight. Overall, I loved the place, the grandeur, the beauty, the way they renovated to update and modernize what needed it was all excellent. Definitely highly recommend staying here!

Rooms were nice, clean, but dated. Bathroom was small, and ac did not work so well. But this was offset by the wonderful lounge/restaurant they have downstairs that had a nice trio, and terrific woman jazz singer. Although the music was great, the food was plain and boring. Another fabulous jazz venue from the hotel is the Green Lady Lounge, an easy Uber from the hotel. Beautiful, dim lighting, great jazz trio playing on both floors. We were in the upstairs lounge (which is the one right off the street), and the Ken Lovern trio was terrific there. Another thing not to miss is the Nelson-Atkins Museum. We were blown away by this massive building with wonderful addition focusing on Modern art. The main museum has some amazing pieces as well, and the grounds are just suberb that also have a great sculpture garden. An easy drive from the hotel.

Beautiful Hotel nestled in the heart of Downtown with walking distance to all the things you need in a Downtown Area. Restaurants, entertainment, museums it was all there. This team is led by competent managers who understand that the customers come first. I had several positive interactions with the various team members. The location has beautiful quaint bar that also serves breakfast and meals. The gym is underwhelming but is suitable to meet most needs.

I chose to stay here because I was going to a concert at the T-Mobile Center and didn't really want to have to drive somewhere else after. Indeed, it was SO convenient! This was a bit of a splurge for me, but I was looking forward to a fancier experience. It is the nicest hotel that I've stayed in, and I felt underdressed walking around the hotel in jeans and a band t-shirt, lol. The main reason that I wouldn’t stay again is how uncomfortable the bed was. It felt hard as a rock. I have an extra-firm mattress at home, so I doubt it was just too firm. The 4-year old Sealy was probably just lacking the support needed for a 250lb person and may well come off as soft to a lighter person. Amenities: When I arrived, at 6:30pm on a Friday, the valet had run out of spots. They pointed out the garage across the street, which turned out to be somewhat of a nightmare. (Seriously, DO NOT PARK AT THE WALLSTREET TOWER GARAGE!) I did get the impression that it was unusual for valet to run out of spots, but I stress out over parking and probably wouldn’t have stayed here if I’d have known it was a possibility. Room service said available until 11pm, and dinner showed as available when I tried to order, but I couldn’t actually order anything, even a grilled cheese, at 9:20. So I ordered breakfast for the morning instead. I ordered for a window of 9-9:30 and apparently they tried to deliver it early, while I was briefly away, and have no procedure to notify guests of this. I called at 9:30 and they didn’t answer; it went to Guest Services, who explained and transferred my call back to the kitchen, but they didn’t answer again. So enjoying room service remains on my bucket list. Room Notes: I was initially annoyed that the light switch only turned on the entryway lights, as I manually turned on the other 4 lights one by one. But the sconces by bed were full-range dimming, so that did make sense. The illuminated, magnifying make-up mirror was a nice touch. There were also 3 large mirrors, in the bathroom, entry, and bedroom. I didn’t personally find that to be a plus b/c I was caught off guard by the sight of my haggard self several times. But it probably does help the room to feel bigger. Outlets/Ports, not including bathroom: 9 outlets (including 2 on cabinets on either side of the bed and 3 at the desk) and 6 usb ports (2 on either side of the bed and 2 at desk). Had a wall plug close enough to the bed for a cpap machine. The bathroom door was a nice sliding barn door. I do not know if it is the same in the doubles rooms, where I’d find that less than ideal. The clearance around the commode is kinda tight if you are an obese woman trying to change a tampon. Misc: It seems minor, but I appreciated the 2 free bottles of water in the room. There is a little designated smoking area outside, which is easily accessible yet out of the way of non-smoking guests. One of the front desk attendants actually walked me out to it, when I asked about it.

I really like this hotel but if you’re in town for an event and the event gets cancelled ahead of time you are forced to pay for a stay you couldnt use. If you call over the phone they send you to an automated service and then an employee who doesnt even work at the hotel. They read off a script and dont care about your circumstances. Really disappointed in the lack of compassion and ridiculous policies this hotel has used. But this is the America we live in now. The hotel just wants to make their money and dehumanize the customer. One day it will end. Enjoy your pocket cash 1 percenters.

Very disappointing experience due to excessive road noise. Stayed in room 402 that overlooks Grand. Bar across the street has outdoor bands until 1am and ridiculous amount of motorcycle gangs (?) riding the streets around the hotel until after 2am. The noise is not the fault of the hotel, I understand that, the thing that irritates me is that they know that it is a problem and they said nothing to me when putting us in that room. The front desk told me at check out that they hear about it all the time and the rooms that face the front are the last they fill. All well and good, but hotel should bear some responsibility for notifying guests of the known problem. As a Bonvoy member, I would expect a heads up. Poor guest relations.

Despite the unfortunate feedback from recent guests, let me assure you, being a loyal Marriott supporter through the years, that this is truly a top-notch hotel, worthy of the Autograph Collection name. While I will agree that the the surrounding area is in need of help from the city, do not let that deter you from enjoying this classy and unique hotel. I must acknowledge the impeccable service from all the staff I had the pleasure of meeting, starting with Michael, a true gentleman and an asset to The Ambassador and the hospitality industry as a whole. His supporting cast must also accept my praise, J and Q (the "letter girls" as I call them) were such a delight and Q is the best night auditor on the planet. Mr. Coury has built an impressive portfolio and I enjoyed watching his documentary in my room detailing his years of work in this great field and I compliment him and his team on providing a level of service that is above and beyond all expectations. Keep up the good work, team!

Great hotel but that is negated by the threatening homeless people that populate the area. We couldn't walk around the hotel am or pm without being accosted by homeless individuals aggressively begging for money. It's a very sketchy area, and because of that we will stay in Johnson County in the future. KCMO needs to get a handle on this problem, it's not the hotel's fault.

I booked the All that KC Jazz package which included 2 tickets to Lonnie’s Reno Club, dinner, 2 complimentary drinks at the door when you arrive, and complimentary parking. I tallied it all before booking the package, and I saw that it was a deal compared with paying separately for the services. It was my birthday gift to myself. Lonnie’s performance was stellar, dinner was delicious, the wait staff was just ok. After the performance, we were given a full check as if I had not already pre-paid with the Jazz Package. I couldn’t find any of the wait staff to get the issue resolved so I took the check to the front desk to explain that I shouldn’t have a bill. They then sent me back downstairs to speak with the food/beverage manager who said that it was not noted in the system that I had booked the package and that the bill would be removed from my account. Check out morning —- the beginning of the worst customer service experience I have ever had at a hotel! Ordered room service breakfast for 2. Later on my bill, I was double charged for breakfast. I was also billed for $25 parking which was supposed to be complimentary with the package. I was billed $74 gratuity for Lonnie’s Reno club, which there was nowhere written that there was an automatic gratuity to be charged. I was billed $130 worth of drinks that they apparently put on me from someone else’s night of drinking, because we did not order any drinks that night. When we checked out, I just had them print the receipt so that I could look it over at home. Once I saw all the extra charges I was shocked. I called the hotel and spoke with the manager who was condescending and did not acknowledge that I had paid for a certain package price. After going back and forth with him, I realized I would get nowhere. I called Marriott corporate to file my complaint with the Ambassador Hotel. I was told that I will hear back by the end of the week. To anyone reading this, please be wary of this hotel management and staff. They are not hospitality type people. Very uncaring. Or maybe only to certain races of people. I feel sad that I spent so much money thinking I would have a great birthday weekend. The hotel is beautiful. The staff is horrible.
