We booked the most expensive room here, Ekwallsviten for 2 nights. It was our 30-years marriage anniversary, my wife´s girl name is Ekwall and her great grandfather was a brother of Knut Ekwall, the artist whose paintings are everywhere in the hotel and the Ekwall´s suite is named to his honour. The "suite" was a big disappointment and the non-existing room service caused us a lot of distress. The "suite" is placed in some kind of an annex to the original hotel, you have to pass through two fire-safe metal doors openings and get through a short corridor to a part of the building which most likely was a storage room in the past. A ugly low-priced black door with a cheap plastic handle is witnessing about everything else than a "luxury suite". Well in the suite, you are welcomed with a half-bottle of sparkling wine and some chocolate pralines. There is no phone, info on Internet connection, restaurant menu or any other information about the city in the room. You have to use your own cell phone and google the phone number to the hotel reception, where you get a wrong information about the restaurant menu, which you also had to find yourself once you get Internet access. There is no coffee machine or a kettle for tea in the room. The next morning, we left the room at around 10 AM, we met the cleaning lady, I asked her to clean the Ekwallsviten, which she correctly confirmed as a room #280. We left a hotel key in the reception. For most of the hotels in the word this indicates the room is ready for cleaning. Not here. We came back at around 3 PM, nothing was done in the room. Went down to the reception and complained. We were promised this will be arranged promptly. Went out and came back at 6 PM. Nothing done in the room, a complete ignorance from the hotel personnel. Went down to the reception and complained. At last, the receptionist lady went to the room to pick up the dishes and made a bed. We were promised some compensation which we never received. My advice to the guests: Do not book a more expensive room believing you will get a better impression and service, book the cheapest one, then you will be the least disappointed. My advice to the hotel manager: Pay a "study visit" to a four-star hotel in a bigger city where the competition for the guests is much harder than in the Tranås province. Hopefully, you will get a better idea how a four-star hotel should be managed. Something positive about Tranås? Yes, the restaurant is great, the personnel is kind and professional, seemingly, the restaurant is linked to the hotel but has its own management. The Tranås park is worth a visit.
