I've given quite a bit of thought about how I would write this review. In the end, however, I've decided to put down our experience exactly as I see it. We had what I can only describe as the worst hotel experience of our lives. I'm a native of Horwich who moved to Canada many years ago. We had decided to revisit the area as part of a UK road trip. Seeing the website describing The Bridge as a "boutique hotel", we thought it would be great fun to stay in "downtown" Horwich rather than at the Middlebrook. How wrong were we! The only room available was a Family Room, which was OK, there were only the two of us. The family bit of this equation turned out to be 2 camp beds in the corner of the room. Not a problem in itself. The real crusher came when we went to bed. We were still a bit jetlagged so went up around 9.00pm. It was then that the trouble began. Directly below our room was a function room. In there, was a 21st birthday party in full swing. The noise from the bass thumping out in the music was literally making the room shake. Eventually I called downstairs and asked for the Manager, inviting them up to experience what we were enduring. The Duty Manager, Lisa, came up straight away. To her credit, she immediately acknowledged that the noise was unacceptable. She said she had already spoken with the DJ once and would do so again. However, whether she did speak with him or not I don't know. What I do know is the music didn't get any quieter - in fact as it approached midnight, it got louder! I don't for one moment blame the Duty Manager for the situation, nor do I blame the young guy who was having the 21st birthday bash. I lay the blame 100% at the door of the greedy, inconsiderate owner(s), who knowingly sold a room to us in the full knowledge that it would be deafeningly noisy until well after 12.00am. We were due to stay for two nights, but we were down those stairs and out of there as soon as it was light. After a bit more digging, I found other reviews from people who had had a similar experience, so this wasn't an isolated incident, yet the room was still sold to us, ruining what we had hoped would be a nostalgic wander down memory lane. Trivial by comparison, but which would otherwise have been mentionable, there was no heating (boiler apparently was "on the blink"), no plug in the bathroom and a toilet roll holder that would have challenged Houdini! Also, there was the most amazing green emergency light on the ceiling that I could literally read by. I presume this is a throwback from when the room wasn't a guest room (I have 'photos of it if anyone is interested). What angers me most about this episode is that it will almost certainly be the experience of other guests time and time again and there's nothing you can do about it until it happens. Lisa, the Duty Manager, said she would bring it to the owner's attention (Dave) on the Monday. I was hoping they would man up and contact me to apologise, but I have heard nothing. I'm no
