La Montagne Guest Lodge

This establishment may have been rated a 4-star *decades* ago but there's absolutely nothing 4-star about it now. I booked the family unit with my kids for 5 nights but ended up checking out earlier. From the facility - (we used up a can of Morten by the 2nd night but we could not enjoy a full night's sleep without cockroaches and wasps flying all over at night; and millipedes crawling all around, the shower handle of one bathroom broke on our 2nd day and it was never fixed till we checked out, the water was shut off and we all had to use one bathroom, the 2nd bathroom was all stuffy and moldy from the moment we checked in till we left) to the menu - (you get one tiny shot of juice for breakfast. Any extra request for juice costs R18, request for water also comes with a price and the breakfast menu is very much restricted). The service was nothing to write home about either. On the 2nd day, we were seeing pieces of pretzels and cookies from under the bed, possibly left behind by previous guests. I requested to speak to Kim the manager but that never happened and I had to leave. For a 4-star rated lodge, there was no Wi-Fi. Don't get me started on the road but I wouldn't blame the lodge for the road as they have no control over that but every other thing is within their control and it's definitely NOT a 4-star experience. It was a disappointing experience for my kids and I as we had expectations from the pictures and the reviews we saw online. We got little to no value for what we paid.

View is amazing, venue is far from the main road, you would need a decent car, van as you need to drive off road. We had a cabin, room rating is 3 star. The other common areas, pool & restaurant is good.

What a peaceful and wonderful place to stay for the weekend. A great getaway for our anniversary. Provides a lot of privacy and tranquility. The views were breathtaking! The unit where we stayed was the Double room with a mountain view. Its properly spaced for a bedroom with a bathroom. Has its own patio and small garden thats very private. Every morning there is cleaning service. The restaurant serves some great food as well. Its never too congested. The servers are on point there. They will go out of their way to provide an awesome service. The free breakfasts that they include is a good portion The only negatives I experience I can name is that our patio's view of the dam was a bit obscured by small tree branches. The juice that came with the free breakfast was on the small side. And the road to the lodge is quite a terrible state. If they can arrange with the estate to scrape the road it would be great.

It was our 29th Anniversary. We booked the cabin with a jacuzzi. What a disappointment. The place is so outdated and not maintained. The jacuzzi was not working and was so hot that we couldn’t sit in it. There were 2 cockroaches on the ceiling. We went for a drink and supper. When they brought the drinks they asked us if we want to order and we said we just want to finish our drink. The waiters disappeared and we waited 10 min. We drove to town to have supper. We booked out the next morning. I complained with Kim when we left the Saturday morning, and asked for a refund. She investigated and only came back to me the Monday after I had to ask her again if she is done with the investigation. Then only she send a report in telling us that our facts are incorrect. Even send videos of the jacuzzi that is circulating. No bubbles as a good working jacuzzi should do. We took fotos of the cockroaches in which she told us she couldn’t find. And she said she was in the kitchen. Then why not find out if your guests are okay if your waiters disappear. And she said we should have phoned them to complain about the jacuzzi, which wouldn’t make a difference because the button on the jacuzzi is broken off. At the price they are asking everything should be in good working order and not outdated

What a treat. It was the most romantic getaway birthday/anniversary gift. The staff were friendly and tended to our every need. The landscape is beautiful and the view from the cabin is breathtaking. My husband and I got the relaxing weekend we needed.

We wanted to relax and that is what we got. Lovely staff from the restaurant to outisde and very helpful. We enjoyed every moment at La Montagne Guest Lodge. The massage was also wonderful😍.Thank you for your hospitality
