As a seasoned traveler, I have stayed in numerous hotels worldwide, but my recent experience at Antarman Ganges in Haridwar was notably disappointing. Although marketed as a 4-star accommodation, my stay did not live up to these expectations. Upon arrival, we noticed water dripping in the rooftop restaurant, creating an unpleasant dining atmosphere. Additionally, management intentionally blocked lift access to the restaurant, forcing us to climb the stairs, which was inconvenient. The breakfast options were extremely limited, with only subzi puri, poha, toast, and chai made from milk powder. There were no fruits or other varieties typically expected at a 4-star property. In fact, even 1 or 2-star hotels often provide better breakfast selections. The room sizes were very small, less than 200 square feet, and felt cramped. The furniture was outdated and lacked the quality one expects from a 4-star establishment. Two out of the five rooms we rented had malfunctioning air conditioning units. Instead of inspecting the rooms before our arrival, we had to convince the staff to switch our rooms, which was an unnecessary hassle. Furthermore, the lobby and restaurant air conditioning were intentionally turned off to save money, causing extreme discomfort for the guests. This penny-pinching behavior is more typical of 1 or 2-star properties. The only reasons I would issue a 2-star rating are: 1. **Location**: The hotel is situated right on the river Ganga, providing a scenic and serene environment. 2. **Staff**: The majority of the staff went above and beyond to make us happy within the constraints set by management. I felt pity for the staff, as the management’s focus seemed to be solely on maximizing profit margins rather than guest service. It appeared that either the owner or General Manager was on the property both days, sitting in a secondary living area, trying to placate guests. However, the amenities were far from what one would expect at a 4-star establishment. We would have checked out the moment we walked into the rooms, but obtaining a refund from the hotel seemed next to impossible. My advice to future guests is to expect nothing more than basic amenities from this hotel.
